Hello everyone,

In cooperation with the City, the South Riverdale Community Health Center (SRCHC), the Neighbourhood Action on Air Quality (NAAQ), LEAF and Live Green Toronto, BOLD will be conducting a pilot project in Leslieville in 2010. The first phase will focus on tree planting as well as engaging businesses in the "beautification" of the area (i.e. removing asphalt from properties and getting trees, shrubs, perennials; bike stands or benches, etc.).

To be able to do this project, we'll need volunteers. Whether you want to get a tree from the city, do a little bit of work with us (i.e. speak to your immediate neighbours) or do a little more (i.e. canvass a street), ALL are welcomed.

To help you make a decision, we're holding an information session on March 8th. The session will be lead by Prof. Andy Kenney of the Urban Forestry Department at the University of Toronto. Professor Kenney developed a community-based program called Neighbourwoods that helps communities learn about trees, tree health, and ultimately augment the tree canopy. This program is now used world-wide. The session will be held at SRCHC, 955 Queen Street East (east of Carlaw). Here's an excerpt of the invitation (see attached for more details). IF YOU KNOW ANYONE ELSE WHO COULD BE INTERESTED, PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD.

The meeting on March 8th is an information session to give everyone an overview of the planned program, and to start some enthusiasm amongst individuals and groups.

Our March 8th information session will explain the details of the program, and you can THEN decide if it sounds like the right fit for you!

We look forward to seeing you on March 8th, at 7:00pm. Please read attached invitation for full details, and please RSVP to me.

Best regards,

Martina
