Hey all

anyone have any suggestions for good gyms in the area? I tried the Crossfit bootcamp but i don't think it is for me. I would prefer a traditional gym like a mayfair or extreme fitness or something like that.

anyone a member somewhere? are rates reasonable?

My husband and I are at Hands on You which is on Carlaw across from where the old Crossfit studio was. They are awesome...best thing is that you can buy bundles of sessions that never expire, so...if you have a bad / busy month and don't make it, you're not spending money on a membership for nothing! There is no initiation fee and no minimum either. Classes in the summer are limited, but have been told this will pick up in September. This is a boutique type of joint, but hands down is a great experience for the lighter user (myself) and my husband too who has been doing crossfit for five years.
My partner is a member at Training Room. Definitely no frills but you can't beat $30/month. TR meets his top criteria: never busy, free parking, close to home, cardio equipment, free weights, and showers. Done and done. Happy gymming.
I go to System Fitness and I really like it there. Other than great TTC connection and parking, it has a LOT of natural light which makes a big difference for me. It has all the equipment and classes I look for with a friendly nieghbourhood atmosphere. Great sculpting classes on weekdays using stability balls weights and bikes. I also really enjoy the morning yoga instructor. I have never waited for a machine. Really nice staff.
My experience with them was less than spectacular. I found it to be a gym where, unless you were already in shape, you were made to feel uncomfortable for being there.
I like it. Good classes. Love the yoga and pilates. Good equipment. Nothing fancy... but all you need. Very affordable.
I'm a big fan of Riverdale Fitness -- above the Blockbuster at Danforth and Jones. It's been around for 60 years... a great neighbourhood gym where everyone is there to work hard and get fit. Not a lot of 'muscle-heads'... just a gym where normal people can go and do what they need to do. Membership is about $40/month -- rate guaranteed for life.

I've been a member there since last July... and have dropped over 160 pounds... so, something about the place is right!
Hi everyone - wondering if anyone has any updated info to add re: fitness facilities in the neighborhood? I was a member of Mayfair for years and while its a great facility - class times and offerings didn't do it for me. I like variety and am looking to try something new and fun.

Thoughts?
I was a member there for three years. Loved their Yoga classes, which were included in the monthly membership. However, management was a totally dfferent scenario. Not very responsive to comments or complaints. Cancelling classes on a whim without putting notices up. The place looks a little dirty and run down, especially after they lost a portion of their premises and cramped everything into the remainig space. Miss the yoga classes. I since joined another, new gym on Carlaw (Fortis) and could not be any happier. What a difference good service attitude and cleanliness makes...
Does Fortis offer classes or are they just a weight gym?

Just thought I would bump this discussion back up - I'm looking for a new gym something a bit bigger. Wondering if anyone knows of new gyms or if anyone has suggestions?

Fortis Fitness on Carlaw Ave just south of Dundas is a great "no frills" gym. The owner, Sean, is an ex-boxer and current WPC power lifting record holder so he is extremely knowledgeable. They are 24 hour access!

We are located in the same building and offer a 15% discount on our group and private yoga classes to all Fortis Fitness members.
