Hi everyone. I just wanted to let everyone to know that my partner and a neighbour witnessed a vicious assult by 4 people against another one person last night in the parking lot behind Scotia Bank.  A bottle was smashed against the head of the person being kicked to the ground and punched.  I would speculate that it was drug related because the victim didn't remain at the scene after the others ran down the lane.   My partner saw and was able to identify one of the persons involved.  He goes by the street name of Scooter,  real name of Ian McClaren. We called the police but they WOULD NOT  attend as the victim did not remain.  I am posting this   both to make everyone aware to walk safely in the evening in the Boston Ave/Pape Ave area,  because there has been a dramatic increase in drug dealing around the area in the rear lane.  And to just vent frustration over the lack of response by police despite numerous and repeated calls, and community complaint form filing.  Please report any and all suspicious activity  as the more calls they get, the more they will increase patrols in this area.  It has become almost intolerable this summer.  After this vicious attack my partner is still shaken today, inpart due to the lack of police response, and the seemingly uncaring lack of interest by numerous other witness in the parking lot of the Donut Factory.  Just please be aware.

Wow Stan thats all I can say. Such a sad opinion of the Toronto Police ... It's sad really.
Yes. I was born and raised in T.O. and I always respected the police. Until the G20 - the video footage all over Youtube is undeniable.
The next time you call their reporting line and no one responds to you, just remember that 50% of your tax dollars paid for it...

Thing are really strange these days: in our society: if someone is breaking in to your house, an immediate threat to life and property, what do we do: we call a phone number and hope that a man/women who may be sitting in a donut shop miles away will respond and save us!! Never in human history have we been so helpless and disarmed.

Now, I'm not suggesting we own weapons. I never have and do not plan to. But it's interesting to note that if we did own weapons and defended oursevles, we'd become criminals under the law. Meanwhile, all criminals DO own weapons. I'm just making a point here.

Crime numbers do not go down. Never have, never will. Yet we are forced to hand more and more money over to the "protection racket? " aka the police, every year. Why, it was over 1 Billion just for G20. If a politician dared to suggest cutting the yearly increase to the fat union police contracts he/she'd be be out of a job fast.

The only solution is to hire a private security patrol for the area. Toronto Housing has their own, I believe. But remind me again why 50% of every tax dollar goes to "keep us safe" when we need private security??
I, too add a Wow! Stan, and a shake my head in disbelief. It really is disturbing to me. That you have this jaded and incredibly unreal view of our criminal justice system. There are always inherent and systemic problems with every system that society has. From Municipal Politicians, the TTC, federal and political systems as well. But we have to make the best of what we have. It is not to say that the policing in this area is not an incredible source of frustration for myself as well, but it is the responsiblity of the citizens to insist that the services which we pay for are used effectively. When we call we should be responded to, action should be taken, it should be done in a polite and courteous manner ( not always the case). And yes we should see that our actions and involvement as a community member, are having an effect. And until such time as we have a different system we MUST use the one available to us. I for one am tired of having to repeatedly report the same crimes occuring outside my kitchen window only to have the same people and same thing occur the following day. I am tired of seeing the more "seasoned" drug dealers recruiting and hanging with a very young and vulnerable group of people, enticing them with the lure of easy money and free drugs. I'm tired of watching four people ( some no more than 14 years old) beat the hell out of another person with a liquor bottle. I am tired of watching a hooker give a blow job to someone while I'm cooking dinner. But I'm equally as tired of a belief that to do nothing is better. My 2 cents, and my last post on this issue. And I'm sure everyone is thankful.
I'm glad we agree: the current system is badly broken.

However it will not change: as mentioned the politicians will not disrupt the cozy relationship between police union and the taxpayers' money. They all wish to be viewed as "getting tough on crime" even though crime numbers rarely change. What does change however is the amount of money we had over to them.

How will sound cannons and tasers and speedtraps solve everyday issues? Like I said, the next time you drive along King/queen just where the DVP exits, observe the cop lurking behind the old bank building waiting to nab you and take away your money and increase your insurance premium. For the record I've not had a ticket for over a decade now, I'm just saying.

Then, observe how many cops you've seen hanging around Tasty Chicken. I rest my case. How many of the persistent criminals ended up in the 'secret' Film Studio jail a few weeks ago? How many of the criminals in the neighbourhood were rounded up? Zip, Zero, Zilch. How many ordinary people who took tlegally to the streets were rounded up without charge? 1000+. See, it is possible. But the police have no incentive. If I earned 100k+ with overtime, had full benefits for my family, full pension, politicians on my side, a union on my side, you think I'd rock the boat?

Revenue generation is the name of the game.

Maybe your phone call is reaching one of these guys:

Stan your opinion is rather uneducated. Police are citizens too, thus pay taxes. What is the cost of your life Stan? I am sure you would say its worth more then 80 grand! Everyday a cop goes to work he/she has wonder if he/she will be able to come home to there family. Everyday a cops goes to work he/she has wonder if they are going to have to see a dead child that has been killed by some person who has the need to speed. As I said Stan your opinion is uneducated, you are quick to judge and assume you know what the police do everyday. Its a shame really.
I have three short points to make:

1) in the past few weeks, I have walked by the scotia bank about 10 times and about half the time there was a cop or cop car there. They do take note, doesn't mean they have to be there to do so.

2) I have called the police 5 times (2 were 911 calls) in the 4 years I have lived in LV and have had prompt, courteous service and felt my needs/concerns were being addressed each and every time. I've never had to fill in a form.

3) things that happened during the G20 have very little to to do with every day police behaviour in Toronto.
Lauren and Kati, accoriding to my insurance company my life is valued at $160,000 - that's what they will pay out.

Policing is not the most dangerous job. How many cops die each year, compared to small plane pilots, fishers, construction workers and so on.

http://www.kanetix.ca/ic_life_info_life_articles_25 - police are not on this list!!!

Using your logic we should pay more to these other people. :)
So really Stan if you think only about money and think the Toronto police have such a great deal AND think you can do such a better job because you know so much why don't you join and show them how its done.
