Permalink Reply by Leslie Barns on February 10, 2010 at 4:43am I'm not AT ALL excusing this behaviour -- failing to scoop the poop -- but I've seen one way it happens, and that is inattention from the human due to, you guessed it, talking on a phone! Handheld or Bluetooth, either one means the human's focus is not on the dog. This is wrong. It's wrong not only because it can lead to unscooped poop but also because walking the dog is a time for human-dog interaction. Sure, your dog might seem to be ignoring you while filling her nostrils with the pungent odours of other dogs' pee, plant matter and one hates to think of what else. But as the leashholder, it's your job to be present in every way for your dog. Don't wreck it by talking on the phone.
Another scenario also due to inattention, is walking the dog offleash and getting too far ahead of your dog and not realizing a poop has occurred. Have seen this often on the boardwalk where the human's having a vigorous power walk, and an older dog, no longer able to keep up, is lagging far behind. Sheesh! Walk with your dog!
