Apparently it was near Dundas and Greenwood, and they claim they've been doing it for seven years. The couple who owns the house are gay and it seems the church wants to drive them from the neighbourhood. Thankfully it looks like the neighbours are fighting back.
If there's a next time, it would be great if any street residents posted here and/or on Twitter so folks could head over and show support!
This is crazy! I like right at Dundas & Greenwood and I've never seen these people before. How ridiculous! If I do see them, I will surely hose them down.
National Post reporter Drew Halfnight is seeking witnesses, people who know
the church group or the couple, information about the locale featured in the
video. He's @ 416-383-2491 and is working to a deadline tonight.
WOW - this is nuts - as a Leslieviller who yes is a gay man happily married in a neighbourhood that is very diverse I cannot belive this happened.
We need to rally the folks on this next time
Hey we discussed using hoses next time! I have lived on the street for 7 years and in the hood for 12+yrs. Only come across them twice, first time I had no idea, just thought it was some funeral or something going on. But our neighbour who lives closer said they have been doing it for at least 7yrs and then one other neighbour who lives one street over said they use to always harass their street. So not new. It was so great to see our neighbours come out and tell them to leave and the police show up ( unfortunately after they left) and tell us to make sure we call if they come back. So if anyone sees them again please do give them a call. The police were very nice and said they were surprised at the call, I think our tolerant neighbourhood has just never called the police before. If they cross over into hate then it is criminal.
I truly believe they have a right to their beliefs and don't have a problem with the church on the corner, but preach in your church not at my neighbours or at me! If I want to hear your version of the word of the lord I will come in and listen. I do not need saving by you!
As far as I'm concerned, this is, in fact, a hate crime. The shame of it all is it's a "church group" committing it - which means nothing will be done legally to them as far as charges laid. All you have to do these days is cry 'religion' and it's all swept under the rug.
The funny thing is I'm almost positive this is the same group of people (some look vaguely familiar) that I ordered off my property when they kept canvassing their beliefs at my front door every Saturday morning.
These people should be arrested, charged and convicted.
