Hi - I read a few weeks back about a guy knocking doors asking for something. Can't recall exactly that story, but I did meet someone today who took me in. A guy knocked on my door this afternoon saying his son had filled up his van with gas instead of diesel and needed to flush the lines...his wife was at work, he didn't have his debit/cards with him etc. Then he told me he lived a few doors down. He's woken me up from a nap so I was reeled in by his story and gave him $20. I then realized the house he said he lived in was a house I know the owners of! Of course in my 'woken up' state it didn't hit me til later. Beware of a guy knocking on your door with this story! Hit the Greenwood/Queen area today.

Hey,
I got the same story from a guy like 2 years ago!!! (Queen & Jones area)
I knew he didn't live in the house he said so I just told him I had no $$,
I can't believe it is probably the same person. Don't fall for it, it is your hard earned money.
Same guy hit my house twice in the last 2 years, last time was about 6 months ago. I reported it to the police because shortly after the previous visit my house was broken into.

I'm on Dundas, at Alton.

PS: Hi Diane! You were the selling agent on the house I live in. Been there 2 and a half years now and LOVE it!
Hi Dee!
Of course I remember you. Glad you love it. I'll have to pop by and see the renos you've done (I know I was going to do that oh.... a year ago at least!)
That was a freaky incident with that guy. Maybe I should report it to the police. In fact, I will.
Thanks for the heads up.
Diane
I think it might be the same guy who came looking for a boost for his 2 white vans - this was back in May and then again on Friday June 19th. He actually rode up on a bike and said he needed a boost. I told him nobody was home in the neighbourhood and then he left. Not sure what he would get from a boost since he doesn't ask for money up front!
I seem to recall another thread a few months ago about a guy knocking on doors during the night. Not sure if this is the same guy as above but we got a knock at almost 2am last night (Queen/Broadview) from a man (40s, black hair with a bit of grey, glasses, clean cut, Adidas shirt) claiming to live a few houses down from us (he doesn't) with the typical story that his car broke down out on Greenwood and it's filled with alcohol so he can't leave it overnight. He asked my husband for $20 and when he said no, he asked if he could go to the bank for him. Again, no. He left a few minutes later and we called the police.

He wasn't menacing and stood away from the door (didn't try to look inside). I'm sure he was perhaps startled by our very loud barking dog but he was persistent. He said he chose our house because we still had some lights on at that time.

VERY scary. If he does this to anyone else, please call the police.
I'm curious...did the police respond at all? Or just take a report over the phone?
They took a full report and drove up our street a few minutes later and again about 30 minutes after that one. We asked them to not come to our house because our baby was sleeping and we didn't want to risk waking him with the barking dog. We did acknowledge the police from the front door/porch as they drove by the first time.
Glad to hear it.
He got me too! I felt a little foolish that I fell for it. He came by just over a year ago. We just moved in at the time and my suspicion was they he knew. His story certainly seems to be working for him.
No ID = no money from me... If I even answer the door for them.
yeah, our doorbell rang the other night around 10pm. we didn't even bother going to the door since we weren't expecting anyone, and all of our friends have cell phones to call us if they're standing outside.
this guy got me with a similar story in the parking lot of T&T, I gave him 20 bucks...d'oh!
