Over the past few weeks, my partner and I have been dealing with the most frustrating of experiences with a furniture retailer in Leslieville - Flik and Company. Unfortunately, we have been left with no choice but to pursue legal action.

In a nutshell, we made a final payment for a sofa and two arm chairs after notification from the owner of Flik and Co that it was ready and would be delivered in a few days. Now almost four weeks later, there has been nothing but a long string of blatant lies and unfulfilled commitments (e.g. 5 missed deliveries). We have since tracked down the manufacturer who has not even finished the pieces. It has been so ridiculous that last week a fictitious delivery man even texted us multiple times to say that he was on his away with the delivery. He never showed up.

We became most concerned after we came across a Toronto blog this week showing recent postings by other customers who have experienced deception and possible fraud at the hands of Flik & Company at 989 Queen Street East, Toronto.

To see those entries, click here: http://www.blogto.com/design/flik-and-company

We are reaching out this week to local media, trade publications, government, business groups and consumer protection organizations to tell our story.

We would appreciate it if you would help us by sharing this note with your family, friends and contacts – especially those who are buying new homes or in the market for new furniture.

While we simply want what we paid for, or our money back – we also want to ensure that none of our friends or their friends or family have to go through what we’ve been enduring.

For those of you who want some more detail to get a sense for how surreal this experience has been for us, we have a meticulous chronology of events and communications.

While we are sure that Flik & Company has made some customers happy, our experience shows that you should think twice about dealing with them.

If you know anyone who has a similar experience with Flik & Company, please let us know and share your stories.

Thank you.

Yikes, didn't mean to insult anyone but Stephan. I wonder what the couple you mentioned John think of him and his business practices? Do they have any problems with him?
I'm afraid I don't know their history with Stephan. They explained the relationship between Flik and Co. and Partners in Time to me and I simply wanted to share with folks my experience with them, which has been very positive.

So I take it several of you were told to pick up your overdue furniture today?

How is he able to accurately predict how long a family emergency is going to last? Amazing....
Just wanted to update everyone. Stephan has promised us a refund and says he should be able to facilitate this on Wednesday or Thursday. I really hope this is true....I'll let you all know what happens.
Also, just to let everyone know....Stephan's email is working again. There may have been some temporary glitch due to his move.
Is Stephen around the store?

I walked by on Saturday; still closed. Good.
Yes, e-mail back up and running but he's still not responding.

I have my parents coming into town next week for my nephews baptism and because there are many relatives coming to Toronto, they're staying with me...sad/pathetic thing is that I have NO COUCH....I moved into my place on Jan 1st and have been without a couch for 5 months now....It's going to be so frustrating to explain how I still have no sofa...so just use my bed for a couch. I just wanted to say thank you so much Stephan for such a wonderful experience and a beautiful sofa delivered when it was suppose to in March.

On another note, Matthew ordered the same sofa as I did and he got his money back, yet Stephan told me they don't do refunds on custom sofas...
Hey all - Just a note - I know that things can be tricky when dealing with businesses but keep in mind that we would hate to see a business leave Leslieville and something dodgy return. Let's try to support local businesses as much as we can and in turn I am sure they will aim to provide the best service they can....just a thought.
Ummm, Flik & Co is dodgy Sid. First off, if it ever does go out of business (which it should not only because of the crap that has been going on but also because it is never open) the rent or sale price will be so high as to probably repel another dodgy business . Secondly, If you are having so many family emergenies and you are barely ever open maybe it is time to shut down. This is the type of business that Leslieville does not need. Why would anyone support such an awful businessman and his antics? Have you read of all the comments on here? How could you condone what he is doing? Stephan has been given the benefit of the doubt more once by more than one, two, three people. He has shown NO respect for his customers, so why should anyone give it to him? And yes it can be tricky with businesses, but guess what it is called customer service. And if a business is "tricky", especially an independent one, it does not survive. Bad business ethics are not acceptable no matter if it is a local shop or a big box store. I heard that he is sick and that is unfortunate but there is no excuse for treating customers like shi$! It is time for Stephan to shut the doors for good.
I would definitely not hate to see Flik close! I support local stores and will continue to do so. However Stephan's business is built on lies and he displays the worst business practices of any one I have ever dealt with. I am not sure that you could get any dodgy then him. Just because he has a nice store front does not mean he is worthy of our support.
