Does anyone know a fruit stand owner who would consider opening a fruit and vegetable market in Leslieville? I would love one of the shop owners at Logan and Danforth to consider moving to Queen Street between Logan and Leslie/Greenwood.

Permalink Reply by Pat on January 31, 2011 at 2:36pm Yes, the winter CSA from Kawartha is really good: I'm taking pictures of what I get in each box.
Here's the first one:

Kawartha Ecological Growers runs a farmer's market at the Ceili Cottage once a week. You can sign up for a CSA share to get fresh goodies every week, or you can just pop by and buy with cash. They only have what's in season though.

We've been members of another CSA for the part two years but the pick-up is slightly further away (West Lynn at Coxwell & Danforth). Can I ask what $ size of a box is it that you are receiving and photographing? How does the pricing for the meat options work?
Appreciate the pics and info.
Permalink Reply by Pat on January 31, 2011 at 6:46pm I paid $20 for membership, and $600 (across 3 payments) for a winter share, which started 3 weeks ago, and means a boxful of stuff every two weeks until May 19th. As part of the box, I get $25 worth of "extras" each pick-up, food that I can choose. This usually includes meats (I've bought stewing goat and pork sausages; they also carry chicken and beef), preserves (got some really yummy sauerkraut) and a number of other fresh items. I wish I tracked the meat prices for you... alas, I didn't. I'm carrying money over, haven't spent all my "extras" money so far. Permalink Reply by David T on February 20, 2011 at 8:13pm I also went by today...I think they had some issues with one of their refrigerator units so that is why there was empty space in the produce section. Hopefully they will fill those up and hopefully the prices will be good.
Let's support them, god knows we needed a good produce place in Leslieville.

We were so happy to see that "The Foodist Market" has opened on Queen Street. We went in today for what they are calling a "soft opening". They had many options but still some empty shelves and they invited us to let them know what products we would like to see in the store. There was lots of Ontario produce.

Permalink Reply by Gwen on February 21, 2011 at 10:48am Oh- good news. I wasn't around yesterday. I am wishing we had one of the fruit stands on Danforth around Logan, move down here. Those places are just hopping and the prices are so reasonable! Will check out the Foodist Market! Yay! Welcome to the neighbourhood.
