Does anyone know a fruit stand owner who would consider opening a fruit and vegetable market in Leslieville?  I would love one of the shop owners at Logan and Danforth to consider moving to Queen Street between Logan and Leslie/Greenwood.

I support those who want to go Organic and buy better produce....but I can't justify spending $4 on a cucumber.  (Just a personal choice).  I agree with those who said it would be nice to have a regular produce market like those on the Danforth at Logan Ave.  They can have a section with Organic for those that want it as well.   I am sure there is a large demand for Organic in the neighborhood, but I am not sure if it is enough to support a boutique business in a high rent area.
Agreed - looking forward to the Farmers Market but in the dead of winter I'd just like a one stop shop to get a brad variety of good fruits and veggies at a reasonable price that is closer than the Danforth.   Ahhh well..... to dream the impossible dream  :)
Meat on the Beach guys should open a place down here. They have a great little thing going on down there...
One stop shops -- they're three blocks from Price Choppers and Loblaws. Somehow, they need to create a niche that is unique, because they can't compete with those places on volume pricing and variety. If you're looking to replicate the prices of supermarkets, the only way you can get that is with large volume (and trucks carrying in out-of-season foods). If you're looking for a mini-supermarket in terms of fruit and vegetables, ask yourself how they can do that. What hours should they be open? What hours can they afford to be open? What can and should they carry?
They're directly across the street, at Meat on Queen.

And meat on the beach charges organic prices for non-organic food!
The Meating on Queen guys have a nice little selection of vegetables and fruits - emphasis on "little", but decent enough selection. Lots of good canned goods and bottled sauces, too.

Foodist is closing. Posted on Facebook.

Hello, I'm sorry to say that the market is closing. We had a huge problem come up with our 24' long fridge that would cost our entire operating budget to resolve...too much for such a new business.
We wish to thank everyone for their patronage!

Yes, it's quite sad. As one who's hoped for a good fruit and vegetable stand in Leslieville for awhile, I will be sad to see them close. I should add, however, that I'm not quite sure that the Foodist was quite what we needed in Leslieville. With Loblaws so close, it was difficult to justify spending so much more on household items like almond milk or bananas, even organic ones. I think it was simply too easy to compare prices for everyday items like these against Loblaws' prices. I don't know what it would take to survive, but I had the feeling from the start that the Foodist hadn't quite nailed the needs of the 'hood.

Just noticed that the food market is having a closing sale. Any idea of what's going in there in its place?

I agree with your call. John

How bout a farmer's market in Leslie Grove park or in place of the foodist?  A place where we can buy local produce with summer on the horizon...
