Permalink Reply by Purrbollina on February 2, 2012 at 1:15pm Yes, happened to us as well. They did east side of road first then returned to do west side 15-20 min later. They were city trucks too. Normally we get pickups Thurs a.m. or p.m.
Could this be in anticipation of a garbage strike?
Permalink Reply by marx on February 2, 2012 at 3:54pm Hi Everyone,
I saw the waste management guys last night and ran out to ask them about the situation. I wanted to know if I had missed some kind of notice that changed our collection day as I don't put my garbage out till the morning.
The City worker told me that the night collection is a result of the Ford Administration cuts; the city laid off over 150 waste management workers this past month or so and the night shift commercial crew - who this guy was a part of- has to help the residential collectors do their route so that there will be enough time for them to finish. He told me that the past few weeks had resulted with some areas being collected a day late due to the work load. So he apologized for making noise on the street as it was 11pm, and told me that there will be a second collection during the day by the residential crew.
That being said, I suppose we will be seeing the night crew out more often in our neighbourhoods.
