I've seen some "interior designer" discussions on The Leslieviller in the past but they didn't seem to be kitchen-related.  Does anyone know a reasonable but great kitchen designer (int. designers that have done your kitchen, etc)?  We're going to reno our kitchen and need some help!

Thanks!

I haven't used them, but there's a company I've read quite a bit about in design magazines called Chroma Express that's based in Toronto. They design a kitchen using Ikea cabinetry and add high end touches (ie backsplashes) to create a very custom looking kitchen for a very reasonable price ($10K).  I've thought about using them for our kitchen makeover.
Thanks Jen...I'll look them up!

Try Ian at Oomph Design (tel: 1 877 304 1145 or email: ian@oomphdesign.ca) if he's your style.

Here's a photo of a kitchen he recently did: I think the home is in Riverdale, but I'm unsure.

He may be too busy, but he's very good at design.

Cheers, John

Wow, that is an incredible looking kitchen John.  Thanks for the info!

I photograph a lot of kitchens and architecture in general. Most of kitchens I shoot are Bulthaup. Definitely on the pricier side but they sure do look slick. You can see my work at www.10framehandles.com.
Those are really nice pictures Bob.  We wish we could afford Bulthaup!

We've worked with Diane Wood (www.dianewooddesigns.com). She helped us with our main bathroom renovation and last year with our basement reno (including new bathroom). While she hasn't done a kitchen for us (yet) I wouldn't hesitate to recommned her for such a job.

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who offered us advice and recommendations for our kitchen renovation.  In the end we went with John L's recommendation above for Oomph Design.  Ian at Oomph was really great to work with and our kitchen is now finished and pretty darn awesome.  We love it.

I highly recommend at least talking to Ian if you are doing any major renovation work.  He is a great architect/designer and made this whole process great for my wife and I (we've never done renos).  His prices are reasonable and his work is top-notch.  His contact info is tel: 1 877 304 1145 or email: ian@oomphdesign.ca

Maybe I'll post a couple of pictures of our new kitchen next week...traveling right now.  Thanks again for the recommendation John L.

David: I'm very happy this worked out. Cheers, John.

We're looking to do our kitchen this summer - can you please tell me David what cabinetry you used?

We're likely going to do an IKEA kitchen so I want to ensure the contractor we choose is experienced in designing IKEA kitchens.

We looked into IKEA cabinets also Lisa.  In the end it wasn't that much more expensive to have them custom made.  We used a company called Millworx and I highly recommend them.   They also will do other trades so they are a 1 stop shop.

info@millworx.ca or 905 670 9001

They are in Mississauga.  Ask for Eric and Arthur.  I had a great experience with them...but I don't think they work with IKEA.

Have you talked to Ian (contact info is above)?  He will design using IKEA.  I would caution you about using your contractor to design the kitchen...if you're on a tight budget maybe Ian or someone else can at least help you with the kitchen concept.

Thanks for the info David. I'll probably give Ian a call, though we have a few other recommendations from my sister in law that we'll likely also vet.
