Hi I’m Liz West and I want to be your next City Councillor, Ward 30.

With the support of my volunteer campaign team, I am working hard to earn the confidence of our community.

My first task is to engage each and every one of you in a dialogue about what concerns you have about Toronto, and specifically, Ward 30.  This allows me to ensure my platform includes the priorities of the residents.

If you are interested in being involved in the campaign, and/or would be willing to take a lawn sign in October, please contact info@lizwest.ca

I look forward to meeting each and every one of you personally when I come to your door over the next seven weeks.

Liz

Hey all; Just a quick line to end this thread on a positive note;

No matter who you are, no matter what your politics, no matter how much we may disagree...

My door will ALWAYS be open to you.

Come on over to http://leslieviller.com/profiles/blogs/thanks-for-having-me - I'll be glad to see you there.
Good afternoon Sara and all Leslievillers-
I'm still listening, I'm just giving Mark some space while I'm knocking on doors (just came back from Larchmount & Marigold Ave.area) and meeting as many of you as possible. I'm always listening to your concerns and ideas and evolving my platform so that Leslieville, and all of Ward 30, is well represented on October 25th. For those of you I haven't had the opportunity to meet yet, I invite you to the All Candidates meeting at the Ralph Thornton community centre, October 13th 6:30-8:30. Thanks again and I look forward to your questions.

Liz,
Nicely done!
I've yet to make up my mind about who to vote for in this election. But, I can defiantly say I know who I'm not going to vote for.

I'm looking forward to meeting you at the all candidates meeting.

Kisses,.

Lucy

Sorry I missed you and your team on Heward today ... but am glad you left your flyer and I like you stance. You have my vote for this ward! Will be contacting you later for a sign.

Well seems my wife likes you positioning also - so count on another vote there.
Here's my main question, Liz - so far I haven't seen any concrete details from you at all. When will you be providing them? You keep repeating the same vague feel-good talking points, whether it's here, on your website, in your campaign literature or on other forums like the Leslieville Post. I found your answers to their six questions to be the ones most lacking in detail. You offered no solutions, no concrete plans and very little vision for the ward. I've looked at your website and there's very little detail there, save a 48 hour call back guarantee (although you don't specify if that will be you or your office) and a promise to pursue term limits (which may, in fact, result in brilliant minds being turfed from council after 8 years).
So perhaps you can address the following:

What steps will you take to tackle waste and mismanagement at City Hall besides freezing the city's property tax revenue?

Do you support the city's vehicle registration tax and the land transfer tax? If not, how will you make up the revenue they generate?

What can you actually going to do about the contract that was given to city workers last summer to ensure they don't have a 'job for life' as you call it?

What concrete things will you do to bring business to this area?

How will you find 22 councillors willing to vote to deny themselves retirement payouts? And why do you say "over $100,000" in the copy on your website but you say "up to $100,000" in the video right beside it? Do you not know the specific details?

How will you improve the quality of life for Ward 30 residents?

What is your stance on the Ashbridges Bay TTC LRV yard and what was your involvement in the process?

What are the specifics of your stance on land development in the ward?

Why are you suggesting a "city-wide spring clean up" when the city already has the 20-minute make-over and community clean-up days?

Which experts would you bring in to run the TTC Commission? And would you remove all politicians from the Commission? If so, how will the Commission be accountable to taxpayers?

What is your solution to the air quality problems in this Ward? You don't even mention this issue anywhere.

What are the specifics for your plan on addressing the increase in crime in Ward 30?

I would appreciate having a clear idea of your actual stance on issues affecting the area, rather than broad strokes answers that are long on good feelings and short on substance.

Thanks,
JC

Dear Liz,

Do you oppose the TTC Facility at Ashbridges Bay? If so, where do you think it should be placed?

A Facility --whereever it's built-- is required so persons with disabilities can board low-floor streetcars. Are you willing to fight to re-locate the facility with the understanding that this will delay the TTC from providing streetcar access to persons with disabilities?

Please answer honestly.
Just as an aside, it's been studied and debated and debated, and it is proceeding at Ashbridges.
Well so much for Liz's 48-hr response guarantee...

I'll add another question: If you can't get back to people in 48 hours during an election campaign, when you actually need our support to win, how can we possibly trust you will respond in 48 hours as Ward 30's councillor after you've been elected and need nothing from us?
It was never "debated and debated" - it was presented as a fait accompli from the beginning. And it's not over - the decision is being appealed to the Ministry of the Environment.

jc,
just so you know liz is knocking on doors or so she told me in a previous post....apart from the reply i got ...it appears that liz just used the leslieviller as a promo tool....as she hasn't really been involved in posting nor answering here to any significant degree...maybe she will knock on your door?...fred...same goes to you..
last i looked she still has only rolled out 10 issues she plans on dealing with....i can't take the anticipation any longer...
Well that certainly says a lot now, doesn't it Sara? All we seem to be getting from the Liz West team is empty rhetoric and useless platitudes.

Perhaps Liz thinks style trumps substance - I hope for the rest of us that isn't the case on October 25th. Colour me completely disappointed with her candidacy so far.
