Hi I’m Liz West and I want to be your next City Councillor, Ward 30.

With the support of my volunteer campaign team, I am working hard to earn the confidence of our community.

My first task is to engage each and every one of you in a dialogue about what concerns you have about Toronto, and specifically, Ward 30.  This allows me to ensure my platform includes the priorities of the residents.

If you are interested in being involved in the campaign, and/or would be willing to take a lawn sign in October, please contact info@lizwest.ca

I look forward to meeting each and every one of you personally when I come to your door over the next seven weeks.

Liz

You're not off to a good start Mark. One of your platform talking points was not shouting at residents and yet here you are shouting down Liz in her thread. I know you've made an apology but this is a rookie mistake.

Too much has been accomplished in Leslieville to leave the future in the hands of rookies.

This area has come a long way in four years and it makes no sense to start changing now.

Randy
Hi Randy - A couple of quick corrections; let's make sure the record's completely clear, please;

- I was angry but polite in my post; the points I made were completely free from abusive language. I stand by what I said - and how I said it - my only "sin" was in posting the thread to Liz' page, when I should have posted it to my OWN page. That's it - there was no, repeat NO, shouting involved - in fact, I was the one shouted at and threatened by a member of Liz's campaign staff. I won't backtrack; I shouldn't have posted that one here, but I also won't back down; what I said was accurate, with no abusive commentary, foul language - I didn't even use "all caps."

- Second, I wouldn't treat a taxpayer like this; however, an opponent (whose campaign members I am irked at) is another story entirely. I was not treated with honor by this person from Liz's campaign, and didn't appreciate that - which is a good reason why I'm running in the first place. I shouldn't have met disrespect with disrespect, but I apologized sincerely, and I expect that to be the end of it.

As far as the "rookie" assertion, that's fair enough, and entirely your right to decide - so I assume you'll be voting for Paula then?

(For the record, Ward 30's NOT where it could be - ask a school trustee, businessperson (especially in Little India, where there are 5 vacant stores between Coxwell and Greenwood alone) or a lot of residents - and they'll tell you where "experienced" politicians have gotten us.)

With all due respect, posting gaffes aside, to say that I don't know enough due to one small slipup is, with all due respect, irrelevant - and ignores what residents of Ward 30, Leslievillers included, have been saying to me at the doors. Quite frankly, my platform comes from a months-long conversation with many of your neighbours, so to discount my ENTIRE platform over this is remarkably short-sighted - I would expect better from a member of such an intelligent and active community.

I've been told never to get in an argument over the Internet, but records need to be kept straight - even if it costs me your vote, I won't allow words - or their deliveries - to be put in my mouth.
Ah the perils of social media and politics badly executed. A simple "sorry - continue this on the other thread" would have prevented a flik-esque crash and burn in many voters' eyes.
Thanks for your public apology Mark.

Here's another public apology from Paula: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZKgnAHGWEs

Rookie or Pro ... I can't vote for either of you until you control your temper, on-line and off.

Looking forward to seeing's Ms. West's platform...

Kisses,.

I feel really confused by this Discussion. i take it there was a msg that was deleted or something that I missed. Sounds intense.
I think Mark may have taken down his original post when he moved it to his new thread.
You're quite the bulldog, Lucy. Do you work on someone's campaign team?
Hi guys - yes, that's correct. Out of respect for people's views, and as another step to correct the bad placement, I removed that post. At some point, I will post a more moderate explanation as to why exactly I was so angry when I wrote that...but it's true, it's true - "never respond in anger". :)
Nolin,
No - I'm a retired teacher. Single with three children.

Kisses,

Lucy
I wish you well in your campaign and am curious to know what you find out as "felt needs" of the community. I think that churches should open their doors to the community. What do you think?
Liz, please check out the Ward 30 Election Yahoo group, which started up today. It will be populating over the next while, and people will be interested in your platform once you have it developed. You can join at http://groups.yahoo.com/search?query=ward30elections
I've just posted the first 10 of my "30 for 30" issues to my website at http://www.lizwest.ca

30 issues for Ward 30.

I invite you all to visit the website.

We've also added a "Ward30 TV" section, where you and your neighbors can send me your ideas, concerns and thoughts about our neighborhood.

Thank you all again for your support.

Liz
