How to reduce the amount of paper junk mail you receive via Red Dot Campaign

If you want to reduce most of the junk mail you receive via Canada Post, affix a red dot to your mailbox or mail slot.  This indicates to Canada Post that you don't want to receive any 'bulk mail'

It works - my neighbour receives significantly more junk mail than we do - I have a red piece of tape visible in my mailbox when you flip it open that says NO JUNK MAIL

Standard signs (no flyers, no junk mail) also work, but this is a way to ensure that Canada Post complies.

FYI not all flyers are delivered by Canada Post; there are private delivery contractors also. Good luck getting them to comply.

Also, if you have a clear sign posted, chase up the delivered flyers by asking who their service is.  Tell the business owners that their hired service disrespects the rules.  Tell them you want to call them to ask why.  Ya it's usually someone hired that doesn't read the signs or whatever, but enough reports will get the message through, as it kills the potential of marginal direct mail success rates.  And yes, they are marginal.  If it erases the potential business, then flyers will diminish.

I also don't tell them my address, as it shouldn't be upon my address, but what's on my mailbox.  The respect goes behind proper signage, not individual addresses in a database.  If they get punchy about that, I ask for THEIR home address so I can deliver any received junk-mail to their house.  They usually get the message.

I'm currently working on an anti-politician spray.

Still, enough comes through Canada Post that it helps reduce the volume greatly.

Oddly, that directmail.com link you posted doesn't seem to include any Canadian provinces *except* Manitoba.

I had to call them.  I saw an article which said they can be told not to deliver such stuff, but it was confusing what they meant in the article.  The addressed mail that's paid for, which is still obviously junk mail, is legal mail and has to be delivered by CP.  They said I had to contact the originators of the mail.
