Since yesterday it seems that the site is set up as a feed for twitter posts on the main section and discussions are hard to find.  Is this permanent?  Twitter feeds can be found easily, but the discussions on this site are what make it valuable.

I like the format. Real time feed of what locals are talking about and easy to navigate tabs at the top. Works for me!

But it duplicates the Twitter feed in the right-hand sidebar.

Well I for one like the change. I follow using an RSS Feed Reader and I like getting the Twitter feeds easier. Personally I have found the discussions to be more p*ssing contests of late than anything else... my 2-cents.

I see it has changed again! I messaged Nolan about it yesterday, because I found the change confusing... the same information was in the right column as in the centre.

Hmm. Actually, now it's a mix of tweets and discussions. I can deal with that, as long as interesting stuff doesn't scroll off the bottom too quickly :-)

Hi folks,

Sorry for the delayed response. But I'm very excited to see the discussion! :)

We are testing a new feature in the homepage activity feed which incorporates both a filtered set of tweets (the same filtered Twitter search that currently feeds the right sidebar), intermingled with activity updates on the site such as discussion posts, new photos, new videos, etc.  All of the activity feed items are listed in chronological order, so the reason it appeared that Twitter messages had replaced other activity events is simply because there are more frequent Leslieville-related tweets than there are activities on the site.

Please continue to play with it over the next little while, and continue letting me know what you think. If the tweets in the Activity Feed are deemed to be more annoyance than benefit, we can revert back to the site-only activity feed and keep Tweets in the sidebar.

The discussion-related activity can also be found if you scroll down a bit further on the homepage, inside the Discussions box. There are some configuration options there that we can play with to expose more of the recent Discussion activity now that it's a bit less obvious in the main Activity feed.

Hope that clarifies, and sorry for any confusion!

Nolin, you may also want to test the mobile version before deciding. For me all I see of the tweets in the main section is the name of the person tweeting. It results in a page of names and no content.

Please keep sections seperate (the way it used to be) ... I don't want all the "real" discussions to be overwhelmed by all the stupid  "hey i'm havin a latte in leslieville" tweets

I agree.  As much as the Leslieville tweets can be interesting I can find these in twitter myself.  I like the Leslieviller for the forum posts and all of the discussions that are happening between members of the community.  Please keep them separate.  It is especially annoying when receiving the daily update email.  All of the forum posts are being excluded because of the massive amounts of Leslieville tweets.

Thanks for the continued feedback everybody.

Allie, we will have a look at the mobile version. Unfortunately we don't have any control over how it looks - it's a pretty low priority feature with the Ning folks.

A few comments about discussion/forum posts disappearing:

- they are still mixed in with the tweets, in chronological order.
- there is a dedicated homepage section for discussion forum posts just below the Activity Feed
- there is also a dedicated RSS feed for discussions if you are following them in a reader

Keep the feedback coming. If the majority still prefer the old way after another week of testing, we will happily go back to the way it was before.

I prefer the old way. I read the tweets and I read the discussions, but each with a different mindset. The tweets are light reading of casual comments from people who may or may not be from Leslieville, may or may not be just "having a latte". The discussions are more in-depth discussions about specific issues that affect Leslievillians or require input from people in Leslieville.

When the tweets and discussions are mixed together in the main portion of the page, I end up just skipping it all.

I have to confess the redundancy annoys me more than it should.

But it duplicates the Twitter feed in the right-hand sidebar.
