Hi There,

We are moving to Leslieville at the end of May 2011 and would love to share a full-time, live-out nanny. Our son will be 18 months old in May. Is anyone else out there looking for the same or have any advice? I have no idea what a nanny typically costs... Please feel free to email me at kimaedgar@gmail.com

Thanks in advance!

Hi,
I won't be looking for a nanny for some time yet but have the same questions...plus, where have people found good nannies, what do lOok for, ask, tips and yes, esP cost.

Good luck in your search!

C.

Hi Kim,

We were also looking into this for the end of May... We've found a fabulous nanny, and I've spoken to a few families, all who've dropped out after finding daycare. To make it affordable, though, I'd need to pull in a third part time person, who I have also found (she'd start in July and her daughter will be 1 year). My daughter will be 1 year at the beginning of June... we both live in the Leslieville area- Queen and Greenwood area.

soooo... here's the lowdown on paying a nanny in a shared situation... by far the most confusing and complicated part of this process.

Both families will have to take out a business number and pay the nanny separately. You will be responsible for paying payroll tax- deducting EI, CPP & income tax from the nanny's paycheck as well as paying 1XEI and 1.4XCPP over and above the gross salary. You will have to remit payment to Revenue Canada on a monthly basis. I found this website to be helpful www.nannyquestions.com they have a link under "hiring a nanny" that takes you to the Revenue Canada website and a tax calculator, so you can find out exactly how much the taxes will be.

I've heard of people using a company to deal with all the paperwork, for a small fee (not sure how small). You can check out ADP. Also try http://www.tax4nanny.ca/.

I am meeting with a few home daycares next week, so if I see something I like, I may be forced to take the easy route... but i still really like the idea of sharing a nanny- the woman I've found is pretty great- she's hoping to become a midwife and has been working as a nanny for the past few years, and has nanny shared in the past with 2 families in Vancouver.

If you'd be interested in chatting further about this, you can contact me at cathyandwinter@gmail.com. I can also give you the nanny's name and contact info.

Cheers,

Cathy

I am very interested in a nanny share but starting Sept 2012. If this is a possibility, let me know. Our girl will be one year in May and is extremely active, good natured and playful. I am happy to do scouting work to try and locate a good nanny. We are around Logan and Dundas. Our house is slowly becoming baby-friendly :)
