I have signed a lease with a local who will be opening a relaxed, Irish style pub in the space. This was a long time coming, but is a great fit for the building and that block. She lives on Pape, and has years of experience.
It will likely have a bar in the front room, and then more dining in the middle room (the snug) and the back.
More soon!
Carl.

Permalink Reply by Carl Stryg on July 21, 2012 at 10:31am Irish indeed! The new tenant expressed much interest in the history of the Irish family who built the building in 1895. Over the years, I have uncovered most of it and even met descendants! I imagine this historical context for the business will be featured in her new bar. I think it's a great fit for that block, and a perfect fit for that building. The beautiful facade just screams 'PUB'!

Hey Carl glad to see this is happening! Noted yesterday that contractors already hard at work and today a peek indicated (?) that drywall is already up? If so then things are moving fast which is great. I am really looking forward to enjoying the new local! Well done and I hope you are rewarded for your patience in finding a good tenant!
Surprised that so few on the board here have commented since you posted this great news! I guess Leslieville is a happenin' place - lol

Permalink Reply by Rachel Finan on August 13, 2012 at 3:25pm I accosted a young construction worker outside here yesterday to find out what it was going to be. I think I frightened the life out of him :) and he didn't know! glad I came here to check. Very exciting!
Carl, would you please ask that they cater for veggies on their menu? :)
Thanks!
Permalink Reply by Carl Stryg on August 13, 2012 at 3:33pm As it happens, the owner seems keen on creating a menu with a little something for everyone! My sense is it will not be a traditional pub per se, but a little bit bub, a little bit sports bar!
Permalink Reply by Simon on August 15, 2012 at 10:23am The Roy has a no-stroller policy, and a notice in the window designating it an "adult-oriented" space.

I guess the question becomes will it be an adult-friendly pub or baby friendly pub... I think we really need a pure adult environment here - no strollers ... but that is just moi! lol

Permalink Reply by Simon on August 15, 2012 at 11:43am Well, we'll have to disagree on that, I guess. I love it there, and think their food is fine for pub fare. Looking forward to the new place, though.

While that is true - the food their is poor and the owner Marc has issues ... so I stay away from there and have for a very long time ... it went downhill shortly after opening
