What Are You Looking At *might* be open. Lights all on, bar stools on the floor...didn't see an "open" sign, but it certainly looked that way.
Big ladder in hallway, looks nice, but empty.

Methinks time for a new thread on this.
coming soon website for Ruby Watchco: http://rubywatchco.ca/

(i'm looking forward to this place, in case it wasn't obvious :) )
I was convinced that Carlaw Carbs was 3 doors away from Carlaw, not down the street where it now has the sign.
It's hard to tell what's going on over there. They removed the paper from the windows weeks ago, the "Pass" sign is up from the City Health Department, there's furniture in there which at least suggest that they were about ready to open, and yet here we are, several weeks later, still wondering what's up. I go past there every day on my way to and from work, and even when I've walked past on the weekend, I can never tell if they're actually open for business or not. There isn't even an "Opening Soon" note or anything to give us a hint.

I know that someone from the bar is a member of the Leslieviller - they want want to consider posting a note or something to let us know when they're planning to open, if they're getting close.

I know the LCBO is in their typical rush to get people up and running...in full sarcasm. Nobody in that organization ever understood the concept of a business and how a licence really allows them to start earning money, instead of stealing funds from the public bucket o' funds. Another new bar in the area is being delayed by LCBO incompetency. Perhaps this might be stifling this new place as well. Place looks modern, cosy, funky. Should prove interesting.
I walked by Ruby Watch Co last night. Paper was down from the windows and there was a flurry of activity inside. Space looked drop dead gorgeous. Based on what I saw, I imagine this spot will probably be opening within the next couple of weeks. Can't wait!

I also walk by the spot everyday. Last night was the first time it looked as though it might actually be open for business. It was the first time I'd seen all the lights on and the bar stools on the floor instead of on top of the bar. That's why I assumed it was open. It looks so ready to go, I'd be surprised if the doors didn't open this weekend. But maybe there's liquor license issue as Scotch Egg alluded to that's holding things up.

Maybe they were doing staff training and menu tasting...

I remember someone from there posting last summer that they were planning to open last August, but I think that plan was FUBAR'd by the City workers strike, which among other things, seriously stymied liquor licence and building permit applications. I remember reading some of the shenanigans going on with Le Papillon East and another place in the Brach regarding liquor licenses and permits and such. Hope that's not the case here. The place does look nice though.

As for Ruby Watchco, I think it was originally scheduled to open sometime in March, so they must be getting close. Very exciting!

Two new spots that look exciting - One in the former 'Six Shooter Records' space on Queen west of Bertmount .. sign is up (says 'Frankly Eatery' or someting??) - but paper over the windows.
And a local/free-range etc. burger place on north side of Gerrard west of Jones. That strip is like a whole new frontier for the 'hood.
Anyone know anything about either? (Apologies if I missed an earlier discussion of them)
Hi Terry, there has been no new info on Frankly Eatery that I can find so who knows. They've been working on it for a while so that's a good sign. The Great Burger Kitchen place opens March 22nd. Apparently it's from the same owners of Joy Bistro. That strip is really tired and this is amazing news!
