Also, on the Gerrard strip. Gerrard and Galt there is a new coffee shop opening up called Grinder. The original is on Main and Gerrard and it used to be the second location of Mercury Espresso before the owners split. If it's going to be anything like that location, we're really lucky. Excellent espresso and high quality control! Great news!
isnt this coffee shop at gerrard and marjory?

I was at What the other night. Nice place. I really like what they've done with the space. They have a small patio outside on the lane way behind the building, which balanced the whole place. The front is a bit strange, considering it's so far away from the bar.

My wife and I made it over there about a weeke ago - it happened to be the day they finally opened (apparently they only received their liquor license that afternoon!). A really nice space, and the owners live in the area (heck, even the guy who designed the space lives in the area). It's amazing how they were able to transform the old Carlaw Carbuerator space - you'd never believe it was an old dirty, shop before.

It's definitely a bar/lounge - not a restaurant that serves drinks. Rasputin is probably the only spot in the area with a similar motif (although I think this place is more elegantly designed). It's worth checking out if you're looking for somewhere nice in the hood to have a drink. I'll definitely be back there again soon.

I'd like to suggest to the owners that they may want to put up some decent signage instead of hand written signs taped to the front glass. Also, the website needs a little more work. It doesn't need to be fancy - just cleaned up. Sorry, I'm such a stickler for good signage but I feel people do respond to good design. Good luck with the new place!

yup, nice to see more activity in the strip, but we need more patios !
Curzon's patio is probably open by now. They said last Monday, so it should be open. It's 2°C out though.
That'll keep your beer cold.

Heh that will keep the beer cold, but the people away. It's like a patio in Alaska. I guess I can sing my own songs at that point.
I wish they had held onto the name "Carlaw Carburetor".
