Permalink Reply by Nancy on May 16, 2012 at 8:37pm I had pasta there once. The sign said "It's all about the sauce." The sauce was very ordinary. I hope they restructure their menu and their recipes. I like the idea of a take-out pasta place. I just want the pasta to be better than I can make in 10 minutes at home for a fraction of the cost.
Permalink Reply by biscuit on May 17, 2012 at 1:12pm Same here - it was tasty enough, but not substantially different from the prepackaged pasta dinners in the Ziggy's case at Loblaws. And they seemed confused when I asked for a bag to put the takeaway cartons in: "a bag? No, no ... we don't have any bags." I was on my bike! I had to wrap the cartons in paper towels.
Permalink Reply by Marla Good on May 17, 2012 at 1:22pm I inquired about it today at one of the businesses next door, and was told (and someone correct me if I'm wrong) that the pasta place was a franchise/chain out of another place in Liberty Village, and that they're restructuring because they had issues with the reliability of their food source - and then the source also got a little hinky about the finances, which revealed they weren't in good shape. So, a new game plan was needed.
After being closed for all that extra time, dealing with various offices because of someone complaining that they didn't display a permit during some of the cosmetic work before opening, this is another stick in their bicycle spokes. I hope they can make it after this - I understand they might be thinking salads.
If anyone's taking hints, as much as I love Coyote Willie's and Chino Locos and Burrito Brothers and can manage to get myself there sometimes -- I'd dearly love some quality burritos and tacos a little closer to home, for when I get my jones on for some of that.
Permalink Reply by Bob Gundu on May 17, 2012 at 1:26pm Healthy salads would be dearly needed especially after you have fried donuts and chicken right across the street.

Permalink Reply by Allie on May 17, 2012 at 4:00pm Too bad it wasn't a Queen's Pasta franchise. Their shop in Bloor West Village was fantastic for both pasta and sauce.

Permalink Reply by JK on May 17, 2012 at 7:19pm You're right - I did notice a location near the Brazen Head when I was in Liberty Village last week.

Permalink Reply by Sara on May 21, 2012 at 1:57pm I think a Portuguese chicken place would be fabulous. Meating on Queen use to cary rottiserie chickens, but not any more. Loblaw's chickens are too dry.
Permalink Reply by Bob Gundu on May 23, 2012 at 8:03pm Looks like the old Ethel store is becoming a pizza place called "Gelato Pizza"
I'm curious to see what this will be like. Such an odd name for a food spot. Is there pizza made of gelato? Ha

Don't know what happened frankly.
Rent issues, owner burn out???? I'd hate if this was rent related.
Permalink Reply by Bob Gundu on May 30, 2012 at 3:14pm Oh no. I really liked that place and the owners were cool. Big bummer!

Permalink Reply by Dave B on May 30, 2012 at 5:33pm Yes Bob, cool owner who was obviously trying to make his place unique with that menu. Someone who pushed the envelope on simple good food.
Thats why I'd be bummed if it was a big rent bump that closed the shop.
