"THEY ONLY SERVE OLD MILWAUKEE AND DORITOS HERE.
Do not go here. Is the end of my review. NEVER go here. (and they don't have chicken)."
That about sums it up :)
Permalink Reply by Simon on March 19, 2012 at 1:03pm I was there on Sunday for brunch. For my money, it was better food than what was served at Sophie's. They have a brunch menu (might be weekends only) which consists of variations of either eggs benny or french toast. I had a Monte Cristo which was delicious. The regular menu is pizza/flatbreads and sandwiches. They'll be staying open for dinner once the liquor license comes through. Those of you with babies be warned: no booster seats or highchairs yet.

Just noticed today something called The Commissary opening in the little restaurant space next to Leslieville Cheese Co. Anyone have any intelligence?

Permalink Reply by Sid on April 23, 2012 at 10:12am Anyone know when the space where Tomi Kro used to be will open? I talked to the contractors fixing the place up and they said that it will be a European Restaurant.....looks nice inside.
Permalink Reply by CMc on April 23, 2012 at 8:15pm I believe the old Tomi Kro space will now be a place called Eastenders. They have their grand opening this week, the 24th, I think? Menu is posted on the front door - looks gooooood!!
Permalink Reply by TC on May 16, 2012 at 4:05pm Oh lord more temptation in our 'hood ... chicken and doughnuts ...
Permalink Reply by Bob Gundu on May 16, 2012 at 4:09pm What happened to that Pasta place that was supposed to be open next to Majesteas? Looks like they've already closed before they even opened? Or did they open and I didn't notice? Marketing 101....
Permalink Reply by Chris B on May 16, 2012 at 5:13pm It's the latter - they were open for a few weeks, but now appear to have closed, for now. The note on the door said they're "restriucturing" and plan to come back with a new business model soon.
I think the big problem with that space is the windows - they're so dark that it never looks like its open - it was the same when Cafe Florentin had the space. I could never tell if the place was open.
I did go into Pastalicious once, though - owners seemed nice, pasta was fine (very simple, nothing spectacular). It was a very "grab and go" kind of place. Not sure what happened that forced the apparently temporary closure though.
I also saw the signage for Paulette's - donuts and fried chicken? YUM!
Permalink Reply by Jen C on May 16, 2012 at 7:47pm Wow that was fast. Agree the owners were very nice, food was decent and they spent quite a bit of cash to fix up the place (according to the owner). I think that location is a bit cursed, has always been challenged to feel welcoming.
Permalink Reply by Bob Gundu on May 16, 2012 at 7:51pm It's the little things sometimes. Last year when I had to push a stroller around, I had my mental list of easily accessible front doors. This place had two large steps that deterred me from going in. I agree that it's not the friendliest facade. I hope they can make it work.
