Service cuts coming in January affect Toronto transit agency's busiest routes: Globe & Mail

Here's the part that jumped out at me:

Passengers on 56 bus routes can expect less frequent rush hour service starting Jan. 8. Off peak service will be cut on 30 bus routes and six streetcar lines. The money-saving measures will hit already crowded routes such as the Queen and Spadina streetcars and buses on Finch Ave West, Don Mills and Dufferin

It will be interesting to see what things are going to be like when the new developments on Carlaw begin being populated. Service cutbacks combined with gridlocked traffic... could be the bloom off the Leslieville rose...

501 Streetcar
•Service increase
Service will be increased in the afternoon peak period from Monday to Friday, to reduce crowding. The combined service west of Humber Loop will be improved from every 5 minutes 40 seconds to every 5 minutes 07 seconds.
•Service change
Service will be changed, to reduce the TTC’s operating costs.
During the midday from Monday to Friday the combined service east of Humber Loop will change from every 5 minutes 30 seconds to every 6 minutes 30 seconds, and the service west of Humber Loop will change from every 11 minutes to every 13 minutes. During the early evening from Monday to Friday the combined service east of Humber Loop will change from every 6 minutes to every 7 minutes, and the service west of Humber Loop will change from every 12 minutes to every 14 minutes.
•On Saturdays, the combined service east of Humber Loop in the morning will change from every 6 minutes 15 seconds to every 6 minutes 53 seconds, and the service west of Humber Loop will change from every 12 minutes 30 seconds to every 13 minutes 45 seconds. During the afternoon the combined service east of Humber Loop will change from every 4 minutes 20 seconds to every 5 minutes, and the service west of Humber Loop will change from every 8 minutes 40 seconds to every 10 minutes. During the early evening the combined service east of Humber Loop will change from every 6 minutes 30 seconds to every 7 minutes 30 seconds, and the service west of Humber Loop will change from every 13 minutes to every 15 minutes.
•On Sundays and holidays, the combined service east of Humber Loop in the morning will change from every 8 minutes to every 9 minutes 45 seconds, and the service west of Humber Loop will change from every 16 minutes to every 19 minutes 30 seconds. During the afternoon the combined service east of Humber Loop will change from every 5 minutes 30 seconds to every 6 minutes, and the service west of Humber Loop will change from every 12 minutes 30 seconds to every 12 minutes.

Another sign that the TTC desperately needs federal funding.  RIP, Transit City.

Jim I couldn't agree with you more.  Then, lower Leslie will be dug up for a year, from what I understand, to shove all the services out of the way for the new streetcar yard access.  Apparently the TTC fumbled that one big time.

I also heard recently that there is a new Queen's Quay East route is going to surface.  With that new route, the new yard @ Lake Shore & Leslie, the new Pan-Am site loop (apparently just North of Cherry & Lake Shore), why there is no integration of these is beyond me.  Now is the time to link them up as this type of development will just completely shift the importance of these areas, and hence will need a great public transit infrastructure.

Transit City would have been such the great solution.
