We dropped into this little spot just around the corner from Celine Gardens on Carlaw the other day for lunch. Before it opened we had wandered by and got excited looking at the posted menu in the window - it looked like they were serving up some Austrian/German fare like goulash, schnizel, etc. So when we finally got there it was quite dissapointing to see that the menu had been revised to just have some rather standard breakfast items, sandwiches, and desserts (they still had schnitzel).
I ordered the schnitzel plate and my husband had the roast beef sandwich. The coffee is self serve at the coffee bar. To say it was dissapointing is being kind. My schnitzel was rock hard and tasteless, and the sandwich, while good, was tiny and expensive. We got a piece of apple strudel to go (hoping it would redeem the place) but it too was dissapointing with soggy pastry and a tasteless filling.
The service was also terrible. Extremely slow.
I was really hoping for better. :(

It's easy to be a critic. Please try to be fair...these businesses are not run by faceless giant corporations.

Permalink Reply by Tara on December 16, 2010 at 10:48am agree! I'd rather hear the positive AND the negative. Hearing 1 negative review wouldnt' turn me off of a place, but I would be suspicious of ALL good reviews.

I'm not sure what's unfair about posting a negative experience. It wasn't malicious or hurtful. It was a customer's opinion of the experience they had in exchange for they money they paid. Personally, I appreciate both positive and negative reviews so long as they're honest. That's the whole point of reviews, isn't it?
Being a small business shouldn't exempt you from criticism any more than being a big business should exempt you from the expectation of good customer service.

Permalink Reply by Naomi Eaton on November 24, 2011 at 3:33pm I finally went here a few times and enjoyed it. The schintzel is a bit lost on a bun but is quite good with something on the side instead. I've also had their pesto pasta, roast beef sandwich and strawberry/banana cake and they were all good. The roast beef sandwich is probably the best thing I've tried.
Given how awful Tim Horton's sandwiches are for only a bit less, I'd say the menu items are fairly priced.
