Hi everybody,
I have been working on renovating Toast's old space at Queen and Pape (I'm the landlord) and wanted you all to know I am looking at a few very exciting proposals for the space, and am looking forward to a new tenant. I want to choose someone whose business is a great fit for the neighborhood, and would continue the momentum that Hello Toast and then Toast carried. I am still open to proposals, and won't be deciding quickly, so if you know anyone who is looking for space, I'd love to hear from them too!

Thanks for posting and soliciting neighbourhood input. It's great to know that you have offers. Hopefully, they are exciting to you. For what it's worth, I had read that Ravi's Soups was comtemplating a Leslieville location - they would be fantastic! Otherwise, a Korean restaurant would be nice....add to the food diversity of our 'hood. If I have other inspired ideas, I'll be sure to share!
Good luck,
Eric

Permalink Reply by Jasmine Wong Tung on January 25, 2012 at 2:53pm I second this vote! Ravi Soups is awesome! I wonder if Sukho Thai/Khao San Road is looking to expand beyond their newest venture, as they have amazing thai food and they are always packed.
On a different note, perhaps a Snakes and Lattes? I hear they are expanding, and their Bloor/Spadina location is doing very well. Are there board game fans in our hood?

Permalink Reply by thunderbird on January 25, 2012 at 9:56pm Carl - It is heartwarming to see a local landlord seeking the input of the neighborhood - thank you! Any establishment that is locally owned and that adds to the diversity of Queen East's offering would be welcomed by me. Best of luck.

When I Bought 993 Queen E in 1994 and opened Hello Toast a year later, I had no inkling that it might be the beginning of a trend towards better eating establishments in our neck of the woods. However, in hindsight, it did seem to be the first of many great eating spots here in Leslieville. That history leaves me determined to choose a tenant that will continue the momentum on this little corner, (there is just a wee bit of ego involved!) and I am very conscious of trying to choose something that will compliment our many already established retailers. Thankfully the space - at 1850 sq ft - is unusual enough that it, combined with the gorgeous facade, (restored in the late 90's) has drawn much interest. Of course, the fact that our whole neighborhood all the cool folks here are just plain fantastic helps! Seems everyone wants to do business here... More showings Friday and I'll let Y'all know as soon as I've found the right business.
Permalink Reply by JL21 on May 22, 2012 at 1:34pm I wasn't sure if you were still looking for suggestions for this space, but thought i'd throw it out there in case. I think our neighbourhood could really use a medditeranean place, like Tabule or Mashu Mashu -- it'd be a great addition to the variety of the many restaurants in the neighbourhood!
Permalink Reply by Ara Mamourian on May 22, 2012 at 4:18pm I was just talking about this yesterday while out for brunch. I think Leslieville is experiencing Italian Overload! We most definitely need a Middle Eastern resto. That or a great sports bar. Look forward to seeing the space come to life.
