I was walking home this evening after a lovely dinner at Lesllie Jones and noticed a For Rent sign at the Tomi Kro location.  Half of the furniture is gone..

Does anyone know what happened?  I saw no signs indicating that they moved to a new location.  It was such a hoping place for a long time.  I have been many times over the years and always enjoyed it, witth the exception of the last time I was there.  The staff were really rude and tried to rush us out and were taking our plates before we were even finsihed eating!

I don't know if we were there on an off night, or if this was an indication of things to come.

Anyway, it is sad to see a local business go.

It is a very odd situation.  Locked out for non payment of rent.  Yet, the owners have opened a "new/2nd location" at Dundas and Gerrard called The Playpen.

We too enjoyed it a few times but the last time we went it was not very good food or service and we haven't been back since. Very interesting...

Our one and only experience there was terrible. Beyond rude wait staff, ridiculously long wait for food and a rush to get us out the door.

Not sad to see it go in the least.

My guess is that the owners ( Johnny K being one) was getting pushed around by their landlord. The last couple of times I visited, they were pushing their new venture, "The Playpen" on our table, and then boom, it happened. I can hardly believe they took that space at Carlaw and Gerrard... but they did. Let's see what happens.

Yes, Carlaw and Gerrard is an odd location, but hopefully it will bring some life to that corner  It might work with all the condo/loft space going up on Carlaw these days.

I hope they do it right this time.

Curious … why would you say they were getting pushed around by their landlords? The bailiff letter shows nonpayment of rent as the cause.  Expecting to get rent doesn't make a pushy landlord.

@Allie, I agree. I'd get pushy too if my tenant wasn't paying rent. They were in the hole approx $50K!

Yes, I'd say that's typical of the service. I had similar experiences however we kept going to Tomi Kro as the food was so good. They didn't pay their rent, apparently $50,000 owing. Now they have re-opened in that lil plaza on the north west corner of Carlaw and Gerrard - all the coloured squares. The place was full a couple Sunday nights ago.

Well all i have to say is non payment of rent means something.  Either no clients or poor management.  Amazing that they can open up elsewhere in the neighborhoud.  And that said if the service and food were not good in one location will things improve the other.
