I was walking home this evening after a lovely dinner at Lesllie Jones and noticed a For Rent sign at the Tomi Kro location. Half of the furniture is gone..
Does anyone know what happened? I saw no signs indicating that they moved to a new location. It was such a hoping place for a long time. I have been many times over the years and always enjoyed it, witth the exception of the last time I was there. The staff were really rude and tried to rush us out and were taking our plates before we were even finsihed eating!
I don't know if we were there on an off night, or if this was an indication of things to come.
Anyway, it is sad to see a local business go.

Permalink Reply by Jo16 on October 30, 2011 at 9:13am We too enjoyed it a few times but the last time we went it was not very good food or service and we haven't been back since. Very interesting...
Permalink Reply by Jim on October 30, 2011 at 10:48am Our one and only experience there was terrible. Beyond rude wait staff, ridiculously long wait for food and a rush to get us out the door.
Not sad to see it go in the least.
Permalink Reply by Tim on October 30, 2011 at 10:58am My guess is that the owners ( Johnny K being one) was getting pushed around by their landlord. The last couple of times I visited, they were pushing their new venture, "The Playpen" on our table, and then boom, it happened. I can hardly believe they took that space at Carlaw and Gerrard... but they did. Let's see what happens.
Permalink Reply by Anita on October 30, 2011 at 6:38pm Yes, Carlaw and Gerrard is an odd location, but hopefully it will bring some life to that corner It might work with all the condo/loft space going up on Carlaw these days.
I hope they do it right this time.

Ex TomiKro space in Leslieville now available 416-220-9173...anyone interested?#Newrestaurant
Permalink Reply by Gwen on November 21, 2011 at 11:23pm Yes, I'd say that's typical of the service. I had similar experiences however we kept going to Tomi Kro as the food was so good. They didn't pay their rent, apparently $50,000 owing. Now they have re-opened in that lil plaza on the north west corner of Carlaw and Gerrard - all the coloured squares. The place was full a couple Sunday nights ago.
Permalink Reply by Andre Gratton on November 29, 2011 at 7:05pm Well all i have to say is non payment of rent means something. Either no clients or poor management. Amazing that they can open up elsewhere in the neighborhoud. And that said if the service and food were not good in one location will things improve the other.
