Hey Rob,

I am copying this post below from a discussion I started in the 'Discussion' section.  Other Leslievillers have responded to my post to say that they've seen increased drug use at the park as well.  You can head  over there to see the full discussion.

I just wanted you to be aware of this story from 2 weeks ago.  This park is full of kids every day and if the drug users don't mind shooting up/smoking crack in the broad daylight in front of our kids I worry that they would feel comfortable enough to harm or take one of them or leave their pipes/needles lying around for someone's toddler to pick up.   Anyhow here is the post:

A couple of days ago my nanny saw someone shooting up in the trees at Lesliegrove Park around 4pm in the afternoon.  The park was full of kids using the splash pad and playground.  I know when I've walked past the park at night I've seen some questionable characters - just wondering if anyone else has had any experience like my nanny had in the daytime?  Anyone every alerted the cops? Were the responsive?

I'd just hate to see a kid pick up a needle or worse have an out of it drug user/drunk/whatever harm a kid or caregiver...desperate people can sometimes do desperate things.

Anyhow, I just wanted to get a read from others in the neighbourhood.  Maybe if it's happening a lot we need to all call the cops and our counsellor often to increase the daily patrols of the park.

Interested to hear any stories.

There was a couple (a man and a woman) who came to the park tonight just after 8:00 p.m. They went into the bushes beside the ball diamond and we could see the lighter being lit numerous times. They were only in there for a couple of minutes and then they strolled back out. I didn't have time to call the police to report it. The park was still full of families over by the swings.
Christine, I saw a couple (black man & a large white woman) going back behind the baseball diamond yesterday around 5pm and they were 100% smoking something, but from my vantage point at the swings I couldn't see what. I felt nervous that they were doing drugs there, but since I was unable to tell for sure, I didn't feel comfortable calling the police. I feel pretty conflicted about all this. I don't want to accuse people who are using the park falsely, but I also want to protect my child, it's CHILDREN'S PARK FOR Pete's sake. :( :( I really dislike this situation.

Rob, is there any way Leslieville could get a bike/foot patrol here regularly visiting the parks to make it a less appealing place to do drugs and engage in prostitution? You'd think the fact that children are present would be enough, but I guess crackheads don't give a damn about anyone but themselves and their addiction.
Thanks for adding stories to this thread Christine and Tara. Rob, hopefully you can reassure us and as Tara said help us get a regular patrol of our parks. Clearly these addicts feel comfortable enough to smoke crack in broad daylight. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Baseball diamond? LeslieGrove has a baseball diamond? Are we talking about the same park?
Yes, Leslie Grove has a baseball diamond at the north end of the park.
