I recently discovered some unusual credit card activity on my recent bill. A credit card cheque (the ones they send you free occasionally) had been used without my knowledge. After asking my CC company to send me a copy of the cheque, I discovered someone had used this in an act of fraud. The absence of my bill in the mail didn't raise any red flags because it was during the postal workers strike.
I have launched investigations with my credit card company and after reporting it to 55 division, they confirmed that the suspect is known to them for theft of mail and fraud. Toronto police have a unit that works with the credit agency in these investigations and will be in touch with me in the future.
I wanted to share my story with other residents to make them aware that this is happening in the neighborhood. If you are missing mail, particularly bank and credit statements. please contact your bank and credit companys right away. Keep a look out unusual credit activity. All comments and questions are welcome here.
