I wanted to post a note on here about a new service being provided by the Toronto Police Service. It's called TPS LINKS and it finally replaces our very old but successful autodialer program. It allows for you to sign up online and receive notifications from us from local street closures to community safety issues to city wide issues. The only downfall is any voice messages you will receive from 55 will have my voice attached to it.

To sign up go to the following and click on the TPSlinks icon to follow the registration process.

I'm on Ashdale (Little India) and there have been a fair number of car break ins in our area as well. We accidentally left the doors unlocked and something was taken from our SUV 3 weeks ago, and now our neighbours are complaining about the same thing. Guess we'll all have to be a little more vigilant.

Hi, just found out about this group because of a reccomendation from someone that I post info here about recent car break-ins.  I live on Brooklyn Ave. my car was gone through Sunday night and a number of DVDs and CDs were stolen along with a few other incidentals.  My husband's car was also gone through (he doesn't lock his because he's sick of replacing windows).  He was parked in our spot out back (west side laneway between Brighton and Blong).  The following are cross posts from the Leslieville yahooo group:

- I also live on Brooklyn (just a few houses down from you, P). I accidentally left my car unlocked a few nights ago and someone went through it. All they took was my sunglasses.

- I'm sure you've noticed the increase in activity of suspicious folks around our lanes in the past weeks. I caught Liam aka short black haired guy on bike snooping around at the back of our lanes now on two occasions since our return on Saturday, and one young man with missing teeth and a black cap trying to avoid me seeing his face loitering on the Brooklyn lane.

- Was this on Sunday night? I live on Knox and park in the alley behind the house and our car was searched Sunday night. We stopped locking the car after the window was smashed a few months ago. The only thing worth taking in the car was a few coins. Very frustrating. Wonder if it was the same person going through the neighbourhood.

- My dogsitters window was smashed on Tues night/wed morn in alley between brooklyn and bertmount and my next door neighbour reported evidence that someone was in her van (drinking beer apparently) for further info

Saw guy known as "Scooter" and a blond women at church courtyard at queen and carlaw searching in bushes and looking around suspiciously. Isn't the first time. Thought I would pass along.

Officer Rob,
Can the outdoor security cameras at Toronto housing buildings be accessed by police?

Last night, between 11 p.m. and 1:45 a.m. someone went into my backyard and took a bike we had been planning to repair and give to a student.  They left both of our gates open (to the front of the house and the back alley) and our neighbour’s gates were also left standing open.  Seems like we were left a message that if people want to cut through our yards they will.  (Our neighbour had closed his back gate permanently with some nails and a hammer.)  Only three weeks ago, someone stole our big blue recycle bin from the side of our house in the middle of the day and the city had to bring us another one.

Today I found a man in my neighbour's yard (or their side of our shared yard) taking the downspouts they had removed and left on the ground. He had a shopping cart down the street and said he had asked my neighbour's permission first (uh huh). I think he also said he has a small shop on Carlaw or something to that effect? A friend said she also caught someone trying to remove downspouts that were still attached to their house (they're on a lane way)! But this guy had to walk up our driveway, into our back yard, which I find so unnerving. I confronted him, but didn't really know what else to do. What's the best course of action in this situation? We've had our back yard robbed several times - the latest was last week when someone stole the propane tank from our BBQ. I'm getting really tired of this. I don't want to have to haul our BBQ inside for fear it's going to be stolen next.

Thanks Scratch Eggs I will pass it along.,

I would also encourage people to take digital photo's of items that are of importance to you and yes for some it may be the Velvet Elvis it just helps us if you are victimized and we do find property that we have great difficulty getting it back to the owner, just don't store the photo's on a lap top without having a back up copy.

It can also help you deal with your insurance company as well.

Leslieville Local Business Marketing - 10 ways to use
