That would be great! I will take you up on that offer and see which of my seeds grow to give to you in return.

I have so many ferns - when they start to sprout you are very welcome to pop by my backyard and dig up a few - I have shared these with so many people. They spread so it's easy to pass them on. I don't know what type they are, I'll have to check my book. But, please take this offer as real - why spend when we can share.

I don't know why I didn't think of ferns! I put in a few hosta, in the shaded areas but they are not my favourite. Do you have any suggestions for a type of fern? I have been thinking about forsythia for awhile, I just have to find the right spot.

P.S. I love your garden:)

I've had great success with anemone in my front garden (it faces east).
Shrubs - dogwood, forsythia

and ferns, ferns, ferns

My backyard gets a fair amount of shade

I will be watching and learning from you all with great interest as I try to make an oasis of our back yard this summer!

What have people successfully grown in their gardens?
Besides from planting a whole bunch of stuff late last summer I also have the following seeds to plant in the coming weeks:
Nigella - Love in a Mist
Nicotiana - Jasmine Scented
Cosmos - Purity White
Sunflower - Velvet Queen
Everlasting Pea - Lathyrus, a climbing vine

When I launched this site in early 2009, one of the compelling reasons for doing so was that I was struck by how many of the businesses in Leslieville are locally owned and operated.  Another big observation was (and still is) how proud most…
