About the Club

Leslieville Ju-Jitsu Club is about COMMUNITY...

Our relationships in our gym, our neighborhood, and the world around us serve to enhance our experience of who we are and directly affect the quality of our lives. Our mutual community, our village of Leslieville is a unique and dynamic vibrant place to work, to live, and to unwind. I think it is the coolest place ever, and our little club welcomes anyone to come out and see our neighborhood for themselves. Training here is about getting together, it is about seeing friends, it is about developing relationships, in short- it is about community.

Leslieville Ju-Jitsu Club is about LOVE...

Love for what we do, love for the art, love for being in the moment. We get together and train because we enjoy it. We find it pleasurable to immerse ourselves in the experience. We get excited when we figure out something new, and we enjoy sharing these passions and experiences with others. It is a beautiful thing.

Every week in my class we have a "Show and Tell" at the end, where we show something crazy. The objective is to show our joy of grappling and the cool stuff you can do once you get better. Anyone can show, it's about enjoying the art, and coming up with something you want to share. It's about that cool feeling you get when things go wicked awesome for a second. You can forget the technique as soon as you walk out the door, but you won't forget the feeling of "hey, grappling is cool and I just saw some guy bust out that wicked flying triangle".

Leslieville Ju-Jitsu Club is about ROBOTS?...

Actually, it is about FUN... and yes, we have lots of it. We are always making each other laugh. Developing a quality sense of humour, and the ability to use it on yourself is a very good thing. The warmest people, who also have very little masochistic ego, all share a self-depreciating sense of humour. It is a great thing to be in a room full of friends having a good time. We could be goofing-off between lessons, we could be laughing at how we got caught because of our mistakes, we could be inventing new words to describe what we are doing in the moment (and this one happens so much, at one point we started our own dictionary of made up silly words). In every instance we are having fun, we are enjoying the moment, and we are following a course of action that benefits all those nearby. Laughter is contagious, and so is feeling happy and good about yourself. Try it -- We double-dare you, with cherries on top!

...Where Leslieville comes to play.

All the pictures above are taken from around the neighborhood, they are murals and art work on the side of local buildings. This is just one example of how cool our neighborhood is. For those that know, or who want to know - have a walk through Leslieville on a weekend, and between stops for brunch and ice cream, see if you can identify where all the murals are. And if you do know...come on in and tell us. You just might win something...maybe....like classes and discounts...maybe....come on in and see.
