Hi Lori. Welcome to the neighbourhood. It's a great place for kids; there are no shortage of parks around, and no shortage of kids to play with either. I have a 2 year old, and we're loving it here. If you're looking for daycare, Woodgreen runs several in the neighbourhood. They have waiting lists, but if you call them they'll put you on the list for each of them so you have a better shot of getting into one of them. I opted for home care for my son. I'm going back to work soon, so I've been transitioning him over the past few weeks and he LOVES his new babysitter. She's located at Broadview and Gerrard, which isn't exactly Leslieville, but on my way to work so it works for me. She does have availability right now; if you're interested let me know and I'll pass along her number.

Thanx so far we are loving the neighbourhood too and get wait until the weather is warmer so we can explore the 'hood more.
I will love any numbers you can give me:) My concern is the schooling issue. I have recently discovered that it is really hard to get into a school on optional attendance (in North York anyway) so I am not sure if it is the same here or if they are a bit more understanding of the day care vs. home address issue. My boys home school will be Leslieville so I am not sure if I should only look for day care in that area??? Does anyone have any experience with this down here???

I am on the list at WinHarris but wondering how you feel about that vs. home care. Also what is the cost like? I have my mother-in-law helping out with my 1 yr old but in April, we need another solution.

I haven't been to Winn Harris, but I've heard it's a good daycare. It really is a tough decision between home care and day care. For me, I had some concerns specific to my little guy about putting him in a more "institutional" setting of a daycare. Going to someone's home, where he'll get a lot of attention, and exposure to kids of different ages were really important (she has a couple of kids who come after school who LOVE the little kids). And the fact that it's only $50/day makes it more affordable than a lot of the daycares in the area. Apparently, a lot of the daycares in the area only take kids starting at 18 months, so she has a lot of people wanting her to look after their kids for the 6 months between going back to work and daycare being available. But she'd prefer to have more permanent situations with the kids... better for the kids and her. If you'd like more info, feel free to email me at carolyn_scharf@rogers.com.
