Comment by Nadine on April 1, 2011 at 3:35pm Hello neighbourhood peeps! I'm posting here with a request. We're trying to drum up donations to auction off for our annual Leslieville PS Fun Fair. You may have seen the Star article about how parent councils enrich schools with their fundraising. Our school ranks 243 out of 400+ schools in the GTA. Not the worst, but certainly we could use your help to ensure this great school gives local children the resources they need. Below is a letter explaining how you can help, from our principal, Bill Harrison. Thanks in advance. You can contact me directly off-list nadine.silverthorne@gmail.com or 416-986-6283.
Leslieville Public School needs your help. Our school services a community that, although rich in cultural diversity, struggles to get beyond the basics. That is why the staff and parents of Leslieville are holding a “Fun Fair and Auction” fund-raiser on May 27, 2011. We are appealing to Toronto organizations such as yours, to donate an item, or service in the form of a gift certificate, that can be auctioned at our Fun Fair. Members of our community will get to enjoy your gift, and in turn, our students will benefit from the bid.
To thank you for your donation, your business will be acknowledged in our community newsletter. You will also be listed among the “Friends of Leslieville” bulletin board that will be displayed on our website and in our school foyer during the months of April, May and June 2011. Last year, approximately 1500 community members attended our Fun Fair and Auction. That’s a lot of exposure.
In these days of dwindling budgets and tight times, it is essential that we pull together as a community in order to provide our children with the most comprehensive and enriching education that we can. Funds raised will go to support the school’s academic program as well as to provide enrichment activities for our students. This will become a reality because of the dedicated work and time of our parents, teachers and community friends like you.I want to thank you in advance for your kind consideration and support.
If you require further information about Leslieville’s Fun Fair, please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,Bill Harrison
