sorry J, no babysitter recommendations...but i'd love to join you guys at leslie grove. i meetup with a great group of moms i met through a weewelcome group (leslieville/riverdale), i'll invite them too. we were doing the house to house thing taking turns hosting, but it's getting nice out now plus some of them are starting to make plans to return to work.
my daughter's almost 11 months old (on the move), and fair skinned, so in the long run we'd probably prefer a time when the sun is not so strong.

One more thing while we are chatting...I am still looking for a babysitter who is available every once in a while during the day and evening - if anyone knows of one, I'd love to hear about them!

Also, wanted to add that I did check out the drop-in at Bruce Public School when my son was younger - lots for baby to see and do, but not really great socially, I wouldn't say.

i know the Running Group and Book Club folks have had good success using a group on the site here to coordinate and plan events like this. the running group even did some advertising with posters, etc. to direct people to their group on the site.

if you create it with a short enough name, you'll get a useful URL like "leslieviller.com/group/moms" or something that you can put right on the flyer.

let me know if i can help!

Amazing - let's do it! If we have a wide range of ages, it will be fun for different group of kids to play together and great for the moms/dads to connect! There are so many of us in the neighbourhood that I've always thought it would be great to come together - for everything from playdates to nanny shares to rallying together for improved community resources.

The flyers would be amazing. Just throwing a date out there - what about Wednesday, May 27th at 12 noon?

Hi ladies,
I have an 8 week old and know several other moms in the hood too! Sounds like a great idea. Also the South Riverdale Community Center has a "Jumpstart" program that is great. I participated in this during my first mat leave. I think it is Thursday mornings.

I think your idea of midday at the Jones/Queen park sounds good.

What if I printed up some small flyers and distributed them around the neighborhood announcing an initial gathering. Then, at that gathering we could ask folks about times and dates and such. What day/date would make sense for a first gathering?

I personally find I'm very isolated now that I have a 7 week old baby. My work colleagues aren't really accessible anymore and I would love to meet some other moms!

Hi girls,

I would love to get a group going for the summer. My 9-month old son's nap times are usually about 9-11 and 1-3...so midday and later in the afternoon are great for us. The park is a fantastic idea - even the little one at Leslie and Jones might be fun when the splash pad gets going!

I think we met around 1pm on a week day. That eventually got altered though due to nap times. My first was more prone to napping out of the house than in it but others were more strict about putting their baby down in their crib to nap.

The group I was with after having my first met in Withrow Park to begin with (I lived in Roverdale at the time). It was during the SARS epidemic so there were no formal mom's groups. A woman in the neighbourhood put a posted up in the park for a time and date and about 45 women showed up. The group eventually split off into smaller groups. When the weather got cooler we rotated houses. One mom hosted at her place once per week. Some of us also did baby and me yoga or stroller fit together. It's a nice way to stay sane and make friends.

Leslieville Local Business Marketing - 10 ways to use TheLeslieviller.com

When I launched this site in early 2009, one of the compelling reasons for doing so was that I was struck by how many of the businesses in Leslieville are locally owned and operated.  Another big observation was (and still is) how proud most…
