Hello Leslieville Vegans/Vegetarians!

I just moved into the 'hood and I'm interested to get acquainted with the area. Does anyone know of any vegetarian cooking courses or demonstrations? Thank you.

Hi everyone - thanks for joining the group.

@Lucas - there is a raw restaurant in Leslieville called Belmonte Raw.  I haven't tried it yet but I hear it's really good.  Also LPK Bakery at Queen/Broadview sells raw meals by Pulp Kitchen.

@Jeff - sorry didn't notice your post until now. Hope you got some responses.  If it's not too late you can email me at larra@larraskye.com and I can provide some resources too.

Cheers!

Larra

Hey Larra! Sorry for posting on the group wall, but I don't think I can send you a message until you accept my Leslieviller friend request. No pressure!!! Ha ha! Hope you guys have fun at running tonight :)

Hey guys, I'm exploring a particular theme around what it feels to be a vegetarian for a possible magazine article. Still working out the kinks, formulating the idea. If you feel strongly and want to share a few thoughts, email me at jjurmain@gmail.com and I can tell you what I'm thinking. Thanks!

Hey Gang, glad to be a member of this group.

Is there any raw resto's in Leslieville?

I want to lobby Fresh to open up a restaurant in our neighborhood. Man I miss having a good, solid all-veggie option. Maybe they could do a scaled-down version, like in that empty car-parts looking store on Queen east of Carlaw. Anyway just verbally dreaming here....

Hi there: I am starting up a 'buying club' here in Leslieville in cooperation with the Ontario Natural Food Co-op. I am mainly interested in folk who want to purchase raw food products, as well as organic fruits and veggies.

Buying Clubs are groups of individuals and/or families who get together to buy directly from the wholesaler. Each member creates an order based on the ONFC Buying Club catalogue, and the club places a collective order to ONFC. They deliver the order to a club member’s home where it is divided into the individual orders. Members then pick-up their orders and pay for their invoices.

The benefits of starting a buuying club include:

  • Supporting a sustainable food system by purchasing organic and eco-friendly products
  • Strengthening relationships with your community, friends and family
  • Saving money on your food dollar by buying in bulk or by the case
  • Convenient one-stop-shopping

I'd like to get this started ASAP so if you are interested in joining, drop me a line. As far as I know, there is no initial start up cost so the inly thing you need to join is a desire to consume raw, organic, delicious food.

I can be reached at: karen_dubin@yahoo.ca

Thanks! Karen

Just a note for those that don't eat eggs -- the buns at Great Burger Kitchen (GBK) are NOT vegan.

I'm crushed. :(

I am so thrilled to join this group. In my 7 months living here, I've been slowly trying to navigate the vegetarian/vegan options in our local dining spots. So far I've fallen for some of the breakfast dishes at Okay Okay (mmmm the Elvis is King = sugar attack just when I need it); also a fan of Lil' Baci, Lady Marmalade, Chino Loco's, a few spots up in Little India (trying to think of the name of my favourite one...hmm), and I love Leslie Jones' delicious vegetarian options.

I cannot say that I've taken the time to try Belmonte Raw. These reviews are so helpful, and especially enlightening with regards to the prices.

Larra, you definitely have me sold on trying Baldini. Ever since it opened late last year, I've been eyeing it each time I've walked by. Minestrone soup is way up there on my favourite soups. Might be the perfect option for the next chilly rainy day.

Looking forward to seeing more recommendations pour into this group :) Thanks so much for starting it, Larra. Cheers everyone!
