Bobeley replied to chris's discussion Biodiesel plant to open in Toronto’s port lands
"Chris, the Oakville plant was natural gas, not biodiesel. That matters because different things carry different risks. I also don't know why you're accusing me of not caring about health, I just want clarity on how much of a risk to health…"

Bobeley replied to chris's discussion Biodiesel plant to open in Toronto’s port lands
"Now we're getting to what could be a useful discussion: is the planned biodiesel plant a danger?   Potential forms of danger id'd so far: emissions from manufacturing process; fires   re: the evidence of danger: the Singapore…"

Bobeley replied to chris's discussion Biodiesel plant to open in Toronto’s port lands
"Chris, you have yet to cite a single "cold fact" to support your assertion that there are "obvious" "hazards of  locating a biodiesel plant so close to a dense population and its effects on human…"

"The Oregon documents don't say biodiesel production results in toxic emissions, only that toxic chemicals (i.e. grain alcohol - toxic of you  drink it or inhale massive fumes) are used in production. The company claims "The…"

JM replied to Bobeley's discussion replacing knob and tube - worth it?
"Recent legislation requires that this work be a) done by a licensed electrician and b) inspected by the Electrical Standards Authority; our inspector forced our guy to replace one outlet in the kitchen. However, I suspect some of our ceiling work…"

John L replied to Bobeley's discussion replacing knob and tube - worth it?
"We bought a 2 1/2 story semi just over a year ago. The seller listed the wiring as "100 amp". It wasn't. Almost 80% of the house was knob and tube. (As a side issue, the home inspection company missed all the lousy wiring, too.)…"

"Hi, it is definitely worth it; many insurance companies will not even insure homes that still have knob & tube."

Brenda M replied to Bobeley's discussion replacing knob and tube - worth it?
"I've done it to two homes, including the one I'm in Leslieville. When you replace all the wiring, you can even get a certificate to prove it – which will most definitely help with the re-sale. The safety issue was key for me.…"

replacing knob and tube - worth it?

I'm starting to wonder whether i should replace my partial knob and tube wiring (I'd like to switch home insurers for a lower rate, but many won't take me; I expect replacing it would help resale). Have any of you done this? What did it cost you? Glad you did it? Any advice? Any electricians you recommend? thanks.

Reminder to lock your windows while out

Just wanted to warn you to lock your windows while you're out - there has been a rash of break-ins in the neighbourhood recently (including my house) - the thief likes to cut open the screen on an open window and take things that would fit in a backpack, e.g. laptops, cameras, mp3 players, jewelry boxes, change from change jars...

"Wow - talk about your unintended consequences. Thanks elliot p, very informative. I wonder if this new yard, wherever it is going to be (I don't think council has done anything during the strike), was costed into the streetcar budget (methinks…"

"Huh - looks like they filed a motion for leave to appeal, i.e. they waited too long after the OMB decision to file an appeal as of right, but they have asked the court to allow them to file the appeal anyway. Good gravy.…"

Bobeley replied to John L's discussion New TTC Yard on Eastern?
"I think you're right that Council can direct where the yard will go, and from Paula Fletcher's email reproduced in this thread by jezebel, it looks like the TTC will recommend to Council that the yard be at Ashbridges. And if SmartCentres…"
