Well I have to admit I'm growing hops.  A general Golden variety, which isn't a brewing variety, and Hallertau, which is a Noble hop from Germany.  I don't plan to brew with them.  Just planting some things that mean…

I have a rhododendron in my front garden that has not flowered in the 3 years I've lived here.  It seems to be healthy as it's just put out a new set of leaves.  I know it's probably too late for this year, but anyone have…

I need someone to stain and paint our stairs. Do you know anyone who can do that, and is good and reliable?

Nope.  The detailed quotation was well above labour.  Oh and I hired a rentason kid.  Fantastic!  Capitalism is great (eventually it hires all of us...hahahaha), but you do have choices.

Scratch, you were able to do it for 1/6 the cost because you weren't paying labour! Get real: of course it costs more when you hire someone to do it. That's capitalism. Sheesh :-)

I like to support local businesses, but the East End Garden Centre quoted a job for me.  It was six times what it cost me to do with a friend and myself.  And some insight from some great Leslieville people as well.     I found…

I second the convenience store; I've gotten herbs and things there myself.   Honestly, East End Garden centre is very pricey and the plants aren't so utterly spectacular that I feel comfortable coughing up the cash.  I'm…

The convenience store at the corner of Queen & Boston (between Pape and Carlaw) carries quite a variety of flowers and vegetables.  I've bought just about everything in my little garden from them.  The owners are lovely.

I like to start at East End Garden Centre at 1395 Queen (just at the foot of Greenwood). They purchase from growers who are all located in southern Ontario, and it's all hardy for our climate. They are also willing to make special orders. From…

I haven't had a chance to skim through the long thread here, but I am hoping to get some direction on where everyone is going to purchase their perennial flowers? I am hoping to get a start on my garden today, so any nursery/store…

Thank you so much to Danielle for letting us have our Sick Kids fundraiser at Cream this past Saturday! Not only were you generous to host the event at your shop but you also let us have it during your first annual Dairy Day! It was loads of fun, my favourite was Maple, the life sized fiberglass cow! And oh ya the sundae making which just as many adults as children partook in. Danielle, you put sooo much effort into the day and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. You should be proud of… Continue

The Stubborn Leslieville Gardener

Posted on May 20, 2009 at 5:07pm 1 Comment

Hello All,

I hope everyone is enjoying their gardens! I have gone a little overboard putting in new perennials over the last few weeks. It is so darn addictive. I think my favourite so far is the white bleeding heart that is now residing in my front yard. I never knew that a white one existed - so much to learn! I also added in the front: purple coneflower, colombine, white japanese anemone, windflower, solomon's seal, lily of the valley, chicks n' hens, asiatic lilies and a red… Continue

We need one here!! I would organize one for the duration of the summer, or even for one weekend to see how it goes if I can find a spot to have it. Any suggestions?

Victoria, can I suggest your house then, instead of Tango coffee shop, I just think it would be a lot more comfortable if it was in someones house. People might be more inclined to come to peoples houses for the club. Also, if you have at your house some one could bring some sort of nibble with them every two weeks. Take turns with that. Also wine could be drunk as well in the privacy of your own home. These are just some thoughts that Sherry and I have had. Another thought is that we meet every three to four weeks, not everyone is a fast reader, and depending on the book, that month might be better. For the Fantastic Mr. Fox, well it should take people no time at all, then in this instance sooner that later. I have a dogwalking friend who is interested in joining but she thinks that for her two weeks would be too short a time. Marie

Love your blog, we will swap plants.

"And Spring shall come" Can't wait for those first buds of the bulbs that signal the beginning of spring. To smell the change in the air and to shrug of the winter winds. A time of rebirth and rejoice.
