When I launched this site 2 years ago, one of the compelling reasons for doing so was that I was struck by how many of the businesses in Leslieville are locally owned and operated. Another big observation was (and still is) how proud most Leslievillers, residents and business owners, are of their neighbourhood and its vitality.
So it seemed like a good opportunity to create an online dimension to Leslieville where all inhabitants could interact, communicate, and expand their relationships with fellow Leslievillers.
While discussion and interaction on the site has continually grown since launch, what has been noticeably lacking is the participation of local businesses in the online community.
Here are 10 ways (8 of them free) that local businesses should leverage TheLeslieviller.com to connect with Leslievillers:
So next time you're having a slow day in the shop, start chipping away at this list. If you invest the same amount of time in this local social networking site that most businesses do in Facebook, I suspect you'll be pleased with the results.

It's absolutely acceptable to have separate personal and business profiles on the site! In fact, we encourage it. That way your business can interact with the neighbourhood and other members in a more appropriate context, and so can you.
Comment by Pat on June 8, 2012 at 8:56am Is it acceptable to have two profiles on The Leslieviller: one personal, one business?
Comment by Nolin (Admin) on May 23, 2012 at 12:13pm Great, point Naomi. In fact, when every member registers for the site, they agree to abide by our Terms of Service. The vast majority of members are very good at abiding by our terms. We reserve the right to move, moderate, or remove promotional content if it is posted where it shouldn't be.
One of the terms states the following:
You will not post commercial or promotional content including but not limited to text, images, or links in sections of the site that are not specifically designated for advertising or promotion. The only sections of the site where commercial or promotional content are permitted are Leslieville Classifieds, Events (and only for short-term and one-off events), Paid Advertising placements, and your own Business Profile page if you have created one.
Comment by Naomi Eaton on May 16, 2012 at 11:38pm This seems like a good place to add a quick reminder about where not to post promotional materials. Please don't post anything for-profit in Community News. I realize they don't always get relocated right away and it may give the wrong impression. The Main Room in the Chat area is also not the right place for advertising messages.
That said, most of the time everything is right where it should be. I'm impressed by how conscientious everyone on The Leslieville'r is.
