I meant to write this the other day, but after battling a low-level cold for about a week, the worst of it emerged mid-week and knocked me out of commission. The past week was perhaps the first time that I slept every time the baby slept since he was born. And I'm glad that I did; I'm now nearly fully recovered from my cold just in time for my Little One to begin another growth spurt.
Somehow, between my cold and the growth spurt, I still managed to leave the house a few times over the past week.
After calling the library to register, last Monday morning I bundled up the little guy and we headed to the Jones Public Library, at Jones and Dundas, for Baby Time. It's a free session, running for 4 weeks (we were back today), where baby and parents gather to listen to a story teller who alternates reading a library book and leading us all in song (well, leading the parents in song anyway). Both weeks, the babies ranged in age from two to 17 months old, so part of the fun is seeing how they each react to the stories and the songs, and to each other! My little guy spent most of the time this morning intently watching a 17-month-old boy try to escape his father's grasp so that he could run around the room.
With a half-hour of stories and singing under our belts, a small box of toys was pulled out and the mommies gathered together to chitchat and play a little bit more with the babies.
Last week I also finally made it over to Baby on the Hip to get a baby carrier - being able to try them on with Brendan was probably the best part. I had the nerve to bring him shopping right in the middle of day, when he's much rather be sleeping, so he was a bit cranky; but when he snuggled up and dozed off in the Mei Tai, I knew we'd found a winner. I've tried it out a couple of times around the house - definitely makes my life easier, since B is such a fan of being held (even when he's sleeping).
Speaking of sleep, that's what I should be doing. I hope to get out to a couple drop-in play groups this week.
