One of the things I've most enjoyed about moving from a condo to our house in Leslieville is the opportunity to watch the birds at our backyard feeder.

This winter we had lots of sparrows, dark eyed juncos (which I had never seen before), a few chickadees and a female cardinal on 3 occassions. They never stick around for long as we've got some fairly agressive squirrels and a couple of neighbourhood cats that like to wander through our yard.

Now that spring is here, we've had some new vistors - a white breasted nuthatch a few weeks ago and this morning, we had 8 (of what I think are) eastern phoebes at the feeder. In the past week, I've also heard, but not seen, red winged blackbirds.

Any one else with bird sightings to share? : )

Add a rose breasted grosbeak at the feeder this morning to the neighbourhood sightings - very similar in colouration to a woodpecker. Bit of a bully though, wasn't willing to share with the finches and sparrows.

Those are great pics! I had read about the budgie visiting birdfeeders on the Yahoo group last fall.
Getting multiple visits a day from the cardinals and house finches. The female cardinal is quite brave and will come to the feeder when we're sitting just a couple of feet away - great to see up close. The male is much more cautious.
Based on your comment about hummingbirds, we bought a feeder last weekend with the hopes of attracting some to our backyard. Have also installed a bird bath.

Had a budgie last week - I'll post a photo.

Of course our robins, cardinals, sparrows, redwinged blackbirds. Oh and in April we had a hawk of some kind.

Lots of red wing blackbirds and our usual sparrows. Nuthatch and cardinals also. Have heard a woodpecker. Waiting for the hummingbirds.

I think all the alley cats in and out of our yards are scaring the birds away from our street

Spring is definintely bringing out the birds. We've had a pair of courting cardinals making nightly visits and a house finch pair yesterday and this morning. The males seem to be "fattening up" the females for breeding.
