In the Mouth. Part 4. The Winterlicious Layout in Leslieville

Winterlicious is on from January 30-Feb 12, 2009

Here are some good Leslieville (and near Leslieville) Winterlicious options.

In Leslieville

There aren't too many local restaurants participating (it's a shame, I really wanted to try Fare Bistro). Here are a few in the area:

1. Edward Levesque's Kitchen: They have a $20 prix fixe lunch and $35 dinner. The menu can be found here:
http://wx.toronto.ca/inter/se/restaurants.nsf/Winterlicious/151A1D3...

2. Joy Bistro: $15 lunch/$25 dinner. I think I got the trots the last time I was there, but give it a try anyways. I hear it has improved. Menu:

3. The Citizen. Love this place. Only doing dinner at $25.
Menu:

Danforth etc.

Two great Winterlicious bets on the Danforth are

1. Globe Bistro. This place is one of the best in Toronto. Seriously hard core yum.

$20 lunch/$35 Dinner
Menu:

2. Lolita's Lust. Great, often overlooked restaurant.
$25 Dinner
Menu:

The Distillery District

1. Boiler House. I haven't been, but I've heard it doesn't suck
$35 Dinner.

Menu:

2. Pure Spirits Oyster House and Grill. I haven't been here either, but they are offering ox-tail sliders so it can't be all bad. They sound weird, and tasty, and slippery.
$20 Lunch. $35 Dinner

Have I missed anything we should check out during Winterlicious? Let me know!

Maybe the new owner at Joy has turned things around in an attempt to impress Sean D.

Well I didn't get over to Joy Bistro, and to be honest I probably won't unless it's free. I went their last year and it just wasn't very good. I don't mind paying a healthy amount for a good meal, but at Joy just wasn't high quality. The food wasn't fresh, and the prices aren't low.

I haven't hit any Winterlicious spots yet since I've been in Vegas for the past few days. I will post a review of my vegas eating experiences. I suspect with the flight and hotel prices in Vegas being so low, some people from Toronto will be making their way down there soon.

We were just at Edward Levesque's Kitchen yesterday for lunch, and were really pleased with the food and the service. We both had the chicken wings app, meatloaf entree, and apple cranberry pie for dessert. The wings were baked with a mild sweet/tangy/hot sauce that almost tasted a bit like jerk, the meatloaf was nice and moist with a very flavorful gravy and accompanied by smooth, creamy mashed potatoes and nicely cooked green beans, and the pie was a wonderfully flaky pastry packed full of crispy apples and tart cranberries, drizzled with a bit of caramel sauce.

Well worth the $20 each.

Looking forward to the review on Joy Bistro - went a few times last year when we first moved here and didn't love it, especially compared to all of the other great options around the 'hood and haven't been back. I have heard they changed owners and got a new chef last fall. Hopefully they've improved.

I'm glad you asked, Nolin. I will answer post haste!

I'm hoping to hit The Globe, but in all honesty I'm off to Vegas this weekend so most of my eating budget will be blown there.

When I'm back in town I'll likely resume the Breton and Vitamin C diet.
