In The Mouth. Part 6. Gettin' a Little Grilled Cheese Up on Me.

Years ago I had an idea to open a small restaurant in Toronto serving nothing but grilled cheese of many varieties. Ok, it wasn't exactly MY idea; I stole it from this place in New York - The Grilled Cheese but I thought it would work here in Toronto. I don't think there really is such a thing as an original idea anyways. Did Leonardo DaVinci actually invent the helicopter? I think I made my point.

Seriously, who among us doesn't like a grilled cheese sandwich? I'm even lactose intolerant (if I even look a cottage cheese I mess myself), and I can't get enough of the gooey goodness of two slices of grilled bread with melted cheese inside. Hot damn, I'm becoming ravenous just thinking about it. Like so many of my brilliant ideas I did nothing about the Grilled Cheese Restaurant other than sit on my couch, watch The Real World and eat my body weight in cheese.

Then I ventured into the Leslieville Cheese Market and noticed they have a Beemster Grilled Cheese sammy on offer. If you haven't eaten Beemster cheese before I can safely say you haven't lived a day, and I hate seeing lives wasted. Without hesitation, I ordered the grilled sandwich. The anticipation of consuming this sandwich was worse than waiting for the results of my Hep A test. When they finally wrapped it up for me and handed over this warm bundle of goodness I was elated. Now it was time to dig in.

I couldn't wait to get home, so I ate it right there on the street under the ominous glow of the Jim's Best Westerns sign that always makes me want to shotgun a can of Labatt 50. Sweet mother above, the sharpness of the Beemster combined with the slightly greasy grilled bread was absolutely fantastic. This may very well be the perfect sandwich.

If happen to be venturing to Queen and Logan this weekend, do yourself a favour and grab a grilled cheese sandwich from the Leslieville Cheese Market. You're welcome.

Yup- the grilled cheese sandwiches at the Cheese Market rock- a bit pricey but for a treat it's worth it! :) I especially love their balsamic ketchup dipping sauce. Yummy!
