I've totally wondered about that too! I have a family friend that works in the sewage plant and he said that whenever any of us (or the Le Papillon owners in this case) are bothered by the smell, that you should call 416-392-5150 and file a complaint. I've started to do it on bad days and once they reach a certain amount of logged complaints, the city has to take action to get rid of it. I have that number saved in my cell. I hate that smell!

I love Le Papillon though. The place on Church was awesome. Never been to the one on Front.

Here are a couple of excerpts from their new website for what they're calling Le Papillon East and Le Papillon on the Park (which is currently a blog with photos documenting the construction project):

After serving Toronto for 34 successful years, Le Papillon partners have gone their separate ways to open their own restaurants - Le Papillon on the Park and Le Papillon on Front. This blog follows the construction of Le Papillon on the Park which is owned by Paul and Danielle Bigue.

Le Nouveau Restaurant
Le Papillon on the Park, located at 1001 Eastern Ave, will face a large, beautiful and soon to be redesigned and renovated park. Nestled right between the up and coming Leslieville and the well established Beaches areas, this is Le Papillon’s most accessible and exciting location yet!

Upon entering a restored brick house built in 1919, you will find our reception area and bar, both showered in natural sunlight. As you enter our main dining area you will find a warm and inviting space with a decor reminiscent of Quebec City and Old Montreal with a modern flair. This room boasts 3 wood burning fireplaces and beautiful french doors which allow you to look out onto the adjacent park. The dining room and bar are expected to seat 120 guests comfortably. Above the Dining area will be a large, tree-lined rooftop patio and bar, perfect for spring, summer and fall dining.

That's exactly what I was thinking Victoria- it is quite a strong smell coming off that plant throughout the summer. Maybe they have an inside connection to ensure the smell is contained to the daytime only. :)

Le Papillion is a tasty restaurant for French Food- been to the resto at Front and Church a few times.

Good to see yet another new restaurant in the neighbourhood!

I agree Victoria... odd place for a French restaurant, especially one with a rooftop deck.

I am at the field beside the restaurant with my dog often and have excitedly watched the work being done over the last few months. My only question is do the owners know something we don't about the sewage plant and smell right there? Nothing like eatting escargo with the smell of shite wafting around you;)
