We need one here!! I would organize one for the duration of the summer, or even for one weekend to see how it goes if I can find a spot to have it. Any suggestions?

Last summer Alison McMurray of Ceili Cottage had a wee farmers market on the Patio on Sundays. I chatted with her for a bit and as I recall, she was doing another farmers market in the Danforth area and was hoping to bring some of it to Leslieville. I think her husband is on here as Shucker Paddy or something? I don't know how to look people up. Might be best just to go there and ask to talk to her, she's super sweet. I'm sure she'd be very helpful in this fantastic endeavor!

Hey,

I came across this today. Hellmans' is offering grants up to $10,000 to help people "connect their community with real food" through projects such as community gardens, local food festivals, etc. Surely a farmer's market would count. To get the grant you have to agree to give them photos of the event and details/bragging rights but that's not so bad.

Hi Victoria - in part of my effort to support the Leslieville community, several local merchants and business people have used my bi-weekly postcard to promote themselves. I would be happy to support in this way if you're interested. You can speak to Ian @ Telegramme on Queen St to guage if there is merit. He was the first to participate.

HI Victoria, I'm interested in participating in the farmers market organization group. I think its a wonderful idea and I am pretty sure that the area could support one all summer. Let me know how I can help.

Derek,
That would be great if you know some people who would be interested. Could you please e-mail me at: rockontommy1@hotmail.com with their contact info and what they would be selling.
Thanks.

Hi Brian,
I am interested in participating in your festival however that is probably going to be the weekend that my husband and his siblings throw my mother-in-law's surprise 60th b-day party down in London. If I cannot be there myself to oversee the event I am sure I can get some volunteers (from this site and in the community to help out hopefully).Additionally I am still reaching out to vendors and only have one confirmed so far. How much space do you have available? I am aiming for 25 vendors for the market.
The only reason I decided not to have the market on city property is because of all of the red tape that is involved, i.e. the licenses for selling food etc. However if that can be bypassed for your event that would be great!

Hi Victoria -

We are looking to have a farmer's market component to the upcoming Leslieville 125th Anniversary & 5th Annual Tree Festival on June 20th. We are holding the event in Leslie Grove park (Leslie & Jones) and will be bringing in vendors, local food, entertainment, etc. One of the things that we still need are farmers selling produce. We have the backing of the city and Councillor Fletcher's office so the organization would be relatively easy. We need an energized person like you (and the other folks that have posted here) to take the lead for this part of the event and organize the farmers, etc.

Reach out to me if you are interested in this. It could be a good way to learn the logistical ropes and have the backing of a bigger event to make it happen easily.

I'm really supportive of this idea and, while I don't have anything specific I can help you with, you can add my name to the list of volunteers if you need any leg work or grunt work done.

What about Jones Park? Lots of exposure to people walking/driving past. Farmer's Markets are held in other parks across the city (Dufferin Grove, Withrow, Cabbagetown @ the Farm) seemt o be successful.
