Public Safety Alert, Man investigated for impersonating a taxi driver

Monday, September 27, 2010 - 10:32 AM
55 Division

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of a man posing as a taxi driver.

In the early morning hours of Wednesday, September 22, 2010, a man was in the Yonge Street/Gerrard Street area driving a vehicle made to look like a taxi. He attempted to pick up a group of pedestrians.

In the early morning hours of Sunday September 26, 2010, the same man was seen in the Queen Street East/Glen Manor Road area. He was again driving a vehicle made to look like a taxi and tried to pick up a young woman.

This man was investigated on both occasions and found not to be a taxi driver. The vehicle had a sign on the roof indicating it was a taxi but it had no metre and no visible taxi licence. The public should be vigilant in always looking to see that a cab has a metre and a cab operator's licence is posted.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-5505, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477), online at, text TOR and your message to CRIMES (274637), or Leave A Tip on Facebook.
