The Leslieville Flea returns to the Distillery District…. a sneak preview of some amazing vendors!

The Holidays are over, and it’s really winter….which means The Leslieville Flea is back at the Fermenting Cellar in Toronto’s Historic Distillery District. Come and check out this unique neighbourhood and visit the Flea from 10am-4pm on January 17th!

Here’s just a tiny sample of some vendors who will be in this beautiful and rustic space:

Jarred is a “high-maintenance hobby” of newlywed couple Chris and Andrea. They make wine jellies, flavoured salts, and spice rubs, but it all started with a variety of flavours of apple butter. During apple season, they get apples from a variety of local orchards, and try to use as many fresh ingredients as possible, such as farm fresh pumpkins roasted themselves, and cayenne peppers grown directly in their home garden. The apples are slow cooked for anywhere from 8-24 hours, and then blended for a smooth texture. This allows the apples to cook peel and all for added nutrients. Once the apple butter is ready, it’s jarred and sealed making it shelf-stable for up to a year. Once opened, jars are good in the refrigerator for up to 2 months, though most customers find they’ve eaten it all well before then! (*all products are vegan)

downtown moose collage

“Downtown Moose” began about 6 years ago with hand etched wine glasses and eventually branched out into a variety of glassware and hurricanes.  When Dale started creating display units for selling her glassware, she found that she enjoyed it so much that now it has branched out into the barn with some “upcycled” furniture. Dale also just can’t resist collecting and curating beautiful vintage/antique items and unique artistic items… can find her at the Leslieville Flea for the first time on Sunday, January 17th!

vintage 30

Jenny of Vintage 30 has a great outlook on decorating with Vintage in the home:

“Vintage lovers unite!  I trust that you, like me, tend to be more enchanted with rare, one of a kind objects that have a story to tell. So lets banish blah and boring and adorn with quirky, primitive, and usual.  Yes! that cat telephone matches your Flamingo Print. Of course a houndstooth stool pairs nicely with a floral Louis Chair. And

absolutely spice up your beige livingroom with a bright teal tv console and handhooked rug. There is always room for more personality!”

We agree…and are happy to have Vintage 30 back with us once again on January 17th in the Distillery District

spice of life

Aaron and Nadia admit that they love Spice. An entire shelf in their fridge is full of various hot sauces and cupboards full of tasty spices from all over the world. They realized that they really did not enjoy the majority of the commercial hot sauces available.  Although they were hot, they lacked real flavor. They were full of artificial ingredients and preservatives and were not something they felt comfortable putting on their table or serving.  So they started to make their own handcrafted Gourmet Hot Sauces and Preserves.  Buying Hot Peppers from the local farmers markets they came up with their Hot Pepper Sauce recipes. They do not use any additives, fillers or preservatives. The result is a 100% natural Hot Pepper Sauce, and they continue to purchase all of the ingredients from local farms. They believe in supporting local Farmers as well as using only the freshest, highest quality ingredients. You can taste the difference when you eat real food from real sources.

knotty hives

Mike Wood makes his living as a comedian, but spent Summer 2015 apprenticing to a beekeeper on a honey farm in Manitoba. In lieu of cash, he took payment for the hours of work in beeswax. Over the last few months, Mike has built an inventory of beautiful raw beeswax candles, in a few simple & classic styles.

Mike’s garage smells amazing.

The candles are nothing but beeswax. The wax is rendered and separated but
never filtered. The candles are extremely long-burning, with no added
scents, and no bleaching agents to change the natural colour of the wax.
Pure unadulterated magical wonderful beeswax.

Seriously, you need to get over there and smell that garage….but the next best thing will be to check out Mike’s products at The Leslieville Flea on Sunday, January 17th.

Leslieville Local Business Marketing - 10 ways to use

Posted by Nolin (Admin) on February 3, 2011 at 12:00pm 4 Comments

When I launched this site in early 2009, one of the compelling reasons for doing so was that I was struck by how many of the businesses in Leslieville are locally owned and operated.  Another big observation was (and still is) how proud most…
