55 Division officers, in partnership with their Division Community Police Liaison Committee, will be hosting their sixth annual Youth Scholarship Awards presentation night on Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at 7 p.m., at 735 Queen Street East.
The scholarships will be presented to five young people, between 15 and 18, who have combined academic excellence with outstanding volunteer service with the 55 Division community.
The five youth were chosen from all the applications that were submitted and reviewed by the 55 Division youth sub-committee. The quality of the applications continues to rise each year, making the selection committee's job harder and harder. It points out that today's youth are active in the community. If they decided to become police officers, it would be a real bonus for the Toronto Police Service.
To date, $14,000 has been given to the award recipients over the past six years.
